48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

In the EdgeMax Router POE datasheet, it is stated that 48V PoE is available if a 48VDC Power Adapter is use, where the 48VDC input should be in the supported range of 38 to 54VDC.

Is the 48VDC Power Adapter available from Ubiquiti? If so, what is the part/model number to use for ordering?

Does the 48VDC power adapter output 5.0A (since the 24VDC power adapter included with ERPOE-5 has a 2.5A specification)?

I have tried looking at various resellers and none seems to list such an item.

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Currently we do not have a 48VDC power adapter as accessory, but something like that might be possible in the future. A 48VDC 1.25A power adapter would be comparable to the 24VDC 2.5A version that will be shipped with the EdgeRouter PoE.

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Since your datasheets state that a 48V Power adaptor is required to use the 48V POE output, are you stating that ANY 48V 1.25Amp Power Supply would not void the warrenty?  Who is the preferred supplier for this phantom power adaptor?

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

I'm assuming the PoE on the ER-POE is just passthrough? Or if you use a 48V DC power supply can you also select 24V on some ports?

Yes, 24v supply = only 24v PoE

        48v supply = either 24v or 48v PoE

I can check with support on how warranty is handled when using a different power supply. I don't think this is a new issue though, for example, as shown in the datasheet the EdgeRouter Lite supports 9 to 24VDC input voltage range and the included power adapter is 12VDC, so I don't think using a power supply different from the included one would automatically void the warranty.

To clarify, when using 24VDC power supply input, only 24V output (passthrough) is supported. When using 48VDC power supply input, both 24V output and 48V output are supported (and 48V output is passthrough).

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Most excellent news.

How does the device sense if it's being powered with a 24V or 48V power supply? Is there a cutoff voltage for enabling 24V output regulation and enabling 48V passthrough (vs just 24V passthrough)?

This is of interest when running solar setups, etc.

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Yeah as shown in the datasheet it's actually two ranges: 24VDC Input (Supported Range: 18 to 26VDC) and 48VDC Input (Supported Range: 38 to 54VDC).

Hi guys,

We can decide each RMA on a case-by-case basis. If the device is defective due to issues with the ER itself, we will definitely honor the warranty. If the device is defective due to poor quality power supply, over-voltage, etc, we may not honor the warranty. If you have any questions about a certain case, feel free to email support@ubnt.com.

Thanks,
Matt

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

So what would be the recommended power supply to provide the 48V PoE functionality?

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

To Ubnt Staffs,

The topic came up as a few of us in my community are considering getting this ERPOE router and several UniFi APs to set up our home network (wired and wireless) infra. This approach seems the easiest and seamless without excessive devices and cables running around. However, the UniFi 802.11ac APs appear to require 48VDC, hence the question on how to get the ERPOE to provide that 48VDC power requirement so that we don't need to scratch our heads to get new power socket points to power those UniFi APs.

Would UBNT be able to advice an end-to-end approach to tackle this? At the least, give us some brands and models of power supplies able to meet Ubnt's expectation to keep warranty intact?

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Yeah as mentioned one possibility is that we could start offering a 48VDC power adapter as an accessory. Another possibility is that if many people want the 48V adapter, we could at some point start shipping the router with it instead (though the cost may be higher).

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

I am organizing a bulk purchase to test out the feasibility of the above mentioned setup and would love to have ERPOE to come with 48VDC power adapter. Or at least some recommendations of 48VDC power adapter for our initial POC (prove of concept) testing.

We (a few of us on Residential Fiber Broadband) did something similar for ERL and it ended up with our ISP loving it and adopting this ERL in their Business Fiber Broadband offerings.

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Good to know! Yeah as noted in the announcement the ER PoE is not shipping yet, and we might be able to provide some more information by the time it is shipping.

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

I'd like the 48V adapter as well. Is the router still on track for shipping this month?

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

Hi ancheng,

Thank you for the quick reply! Yes, I saw that post (as it's mine). I just saw this one and didn't know if the schedule has changed. I'm holding off on new routers for all our locations until these are ready, however, clients are getting a bit antsy and we're trying to ensure everyting is on schedule.

Thanks again,

Re: 48VDC Power Adapter for EdgeMax Router POE?

You might also want to check with your distributor about the availability as this is a newly released product and the initial batch may go to pre-orders etc.
