Full Bridged Network goes down

Here is a problem we are facing:

We have a network for around 150 cpes and 10 Aps all bridged .

PROBLEM:

If I reboot any antenna on the network, the full network goes down for about 1 Minute and comes back up.

Please tell me why is this problem occurring and what is the solution to it ?

Thank you

Re: Full Bridged Network goes down

-Are they on the same ip broadcast domain ? What Subnet Mask ?
-What firmware are they running on ?
- Did it just after addition of a particular AP /CPe into the network ?

Yes they are on the same ip broadcast domain
new ones 5.2 / 5.3 / 5.5 / some old ones are running on 3.4 / 4.0
No its been happening from some time now!

I read that due to re-association of cpe can cause some sort of storm. ?? It is because of this??

what kind of storm is caused ?

Mate,

Old firmwares got issues with Broadcast traffic being duplicated on AP-WDS. See this forum.ubnt.com/showthread.php?p=102480

v5.3-Beta5 fixed this by - Improved wireless client roaming between AP-WDS peers.. See deep forum.ubnt.com/archive/index.php/t-26063.html

I would start by Getting all CPEs to 5.3.x first

Hope it helps,

Got something against routers?

You really should consider moving to a routed network.

While I agree routed networks are nice, let's not just all jump on the OP about this just yet.
150 devices hardly requires a routed situation, and the network SHOULDN'T be going down when he reboots a radio.

Re: Full Bridged Network goes down

No joke. The local cable company has 13 nodes of between 2k-4k subscribers on each on a completely bridged network and as much as I hate to admit it, they actually run pretty well and trouble free. 99% of the time.

Wow... That's a bit excessive, but yeah... if you properly manage broadcast storms and the like, it should run OK.

So i need to wait for 5.5.1 ?? anyways im currently upgrading everything to 5.3.5

ALSO I JUST FOUND OUT:
The whole networks behaves the same way (goes down for about 1 minute or so) even if I USE UBNT DISCOVERY TOOL!!
Anyone got a clue why would this happen ?? maybe both the problems have a connection or some thing !!

You are running a bridged network, and you have a broadcast storm problem.

Route your network and use vlans. It will provide much better management, performance, and security than what you are doing now.

I have called for some layer2 switches to control broadcast and do some port isolation.

Maybe that should be a temporary fix??

Re: Full Bridged Network goes down

Discovery tool shouldn't be causing the issue.
Do you route at the customer radio or let them plug their device right into a bridges radio?
You most likely have a device somewhere causing packet storm problems.

Don't worry about it. It's a term network professionals use.

Re: Full Bridged Network goes down

Matt,
I agree he has a broadcast storm problem, but the discovery tool could cause a small storm by itself on a large bridged network
