Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

Thanx,
I have seen this page already
The word installation is found here on this page:
* OpenMesh on UBNT Devices
o Installing OpenMESH on Bullet and NanoStation
o Installing OpenMESH on Bullet and NanoStation - SPANISH
o Installing OpenMESH on PicoStation 2
o Installing OpenMESH on PicoStation 2 - SPANISH
* WISP Installation Information
o Building a WISP

I don't know what OpenMESH is, or Bullet, I don't have a NanoStation and I don't speak Spanish.
I don't know what a UBNT device is.
So, the question remains: How can I install this device?
I don't understand how the online information can be so poor on a product that has no manual delivered with the product. It is so easy to make a youtube instruction video. That would be very helpfull. You guys have a WiKi and a forum but no easy accessable info for the newbie.

where it says 'airos user's guide' or 'airos quick setup guide'

click one or both of those items.

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

Holland...
UBNT is slang for Ubiquiti, it is from their domain name, ubnt.com
The Bullet, Nano, Rocket, etc are wireless products they sell. Their home page has a link to products.

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

OK, I found the page and connected my Pico station to my router
But when I go to ip 192.168.1.20 I see nothing
Do I have to use AirOS to connect?

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

No, AirOS is nothing you need to have on your computer, its inside the radio. Verify your computer's IP address and try to ping the radio's IP

Personally, I'd just default the radio and start over.

The Wiki shows you how to connect to your radio to your computer. Where does the router come in?

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

My guess is your PC is set for DHCP and getting an IP from your router that is not the same subnet as the radio.

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

In order to find out how to configure your computer to a static IP address I would suggest you call the support line for your computer. All computers are different, for example I have no idea where to go on a Mac, most don't where to go for a linux machine, and the steps are very different between versions of windows.

All I can say is you need to set your computer to something like 192.168.1.10 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 to access the Picostation.

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

I am 47 years old, have a university degree and bought my first computer in 1985 (if I remember correctly). I have worked with computers since then on a daily basis. In my house a have 2 desktops, windows 7 and vista, 2 laptops, both XP and an iMac. The desktops I assembled myself. I installed my own network and helped numerours friends with their computer problems. Probably I do not fit the term novice. I'm not an expert either.
The support I met with Ubiquiti is the worst I met in 25 years computer experience.
A forum can be a great help next to a manual to get individual problems worked out. But there comes no manual with this product. There is a Wiki but it is very poor. No clue on how or where to start the installation.
And the anwers to my questions on this forum so far: read the manual (wiki) or ask another helpdesk.

The first article in the Wiki has *ALL* the information that any ever-so-slightly marginally competent IT newbie would need to get the radios to work.

The first article in the Wiki is called: AirOS 5.2 User's Guide
I don't have a AirOs 5.2 so I did not read it. I have a picostation.
Now you might know that the info I am searching for is in there somewhere, but I don't.
The Wiki had 70 entries. The first entry has 56 paragrafs.
I was not planning on reading all paragrafs in the Wiki that well could be more than 2- or 3000 paragrafs.
It is not that I'm unable to understand the setup info: I'm unable to find it.

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

Hello Holland,
Let's go from zero:
In a PC with XP as SO
first of all you must assign a correct IP number to your PC
Go to control panel, clic on network, double clik on the network connection in use (the cable connection, not the wireless) in the "general" folder click on "Properties" another windows open;
In the new window select the voice "Intenet Protocol (TCP-IP)", click on "properties" another window open with TCP-IP data.
Probably you have checked first option "Obtain an IP address automatically", check the voice down "Use the following IP address", then insert the following data on the respective field:

IP address ---------------------> insert 192.168.1.254
Subnet Mask ---------------------> insert 255.255.255.0
Gateway--------------------------> insert 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS Server--------------> insert 192.168.1.1

At this point click on "OK" and confirm all other window.

Your PC have now the IP 192.168.1.254 in the same subnet of the picostation.

Connect a cable from picostation ethernet port to POE ethernet port of AC Adapter, connect another cable from LAN port of AC Adapter to Ethernet port of your PC, then insert AC cable to main 220V.

On Pico light on first led down then the second, wait that the pico has left his boot (30 seconds) then type on your internet browsers

192.168.1.20 and click enter

a little windows open for request username and password

type:

ubnt as username and
ubnt as password

on the internet browsers open the main page of the picostation.

At this time for going away in the configuration step you must tell to us how you want configure your picostation (AP, Client or WDS mode)

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

OK, I'll do that in a moment (the router is in the basement, I'm upstairs now, will take my xp laptop to carry out the above)
I have a Davolink router from the Tele2 company. The signal is very weak. The Tele2 router does not allow a lot of tweaking, I am on another Dutch forum to find out if it is even possible to use the picostation as wifi accespoint behind the Tele2 Davolink.
I think I want to use the Picostation as an AccessPoint because I think (... ) this way there is no loss af bandwith (because the connection from davolink to Picostation is cable).

Re: Picostation 2HP: how do I install?

I'm remembering that some time ago, have found a document from Mr. Leo Lindstrand that are very simple and esplicative on "how to" a nanostation that is identically to the picostation in the configuration method, I don't remember the original link, but you can find a copy here on my personal site:

www.wireless-service.it/document/Nano_Quick_Set-up.pdf

In the same location you can find also the original Ubiquiti guide of the first nanostation hour, it's a bit outdated, but the basically configuration information it's the same.

You can find it here:

www.wireless-service.it/document/NS5_manual_user_guide.pdf

have a nice day, good luck
