AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

I have UniFi controller version 2.2.0 on Ubuntu 10.04 32bit and 2 AP's showing firmware 2.2.0.996.
One of the AP's will reboot randomly, between 5 and 20 minutes uptime. I have swapped the power injectors and the same AP still reboots.
The AP is mounted on the ceiling in a climate controlled warehouse, being too hot or too cold should not be an issue.
Right now there is only 1 client connected to it for testing due to the reliability issues, and it's still rebooting.
I've tried "forget this AP", which should set it back to factory defaults, and reconfigured it, no change.
anything I can try, or is it RMA time since it's only 6 months old?

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

I decided to swap the 2 AP's, and one that hasn't been rebooting only has older WEP clients, the one that has been rebooting has both WPA2 and WEP (I have 2 SSID's configured and allow the default for them to push to both AP's).

now neither are rebooting, for 2+ hours at least.

I did consider sticking to WEP, but I will eventually upgrade all clients to WPA2 and don't want to have to go reconfigure them all in one swoop after the last hardware is replaced.

Is it reasonable that a WPA2 client would cause an AP to reboot after some minutes of relatively light use?

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

Hi,
I have the same problem. Got a few aps that keeps rebooting. I changed the AP to a new one, and it didnt help.
I also tested change all cables and put a AP-LR in place also, still got problem with AP reboots.
I have 3 SSID's, 2 with WPA2 and one open.

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

We have one here that's rebooting almost every 30 minutes.
One of our technicians, think its a earth loop from the power supply.

We put another one that had same issue on a transformer and its been stable ever since.

Will be testing the other rebooting one with a transformer as well to see if that fixes it.

its all a bit weird to me.

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

Mine's on a UPS. Since swapping the 2 AP's there have been no reboots so far. This has to be a hardware or a firmware issue. Can any UBNT people weight in?

Why no reply from Ubiquiti for UniFi AP LR rebooting problem?????

Hi,

My UniFi AP LR is also rebooting around every 2 mins. I also noticed that some ppl are also posting about this kind of rebooting problem.

Could anyone from Ubiquiti engineering team give us "how to" answer ?

???

I lost confidence to quote this UniFi to customers untill I solve this issue. :icon_sad:

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

I would suggest to do some troubleshooting like ntmark and chrwei did.
If at the exact same spot with the same cable and PoE adapter, one UAP works and one's problematic. Go ahead and RMA it. We'll take a look.

Same problem with rebooting

Hi,

I am having the same problem with rebooting:

2011/12/16 10:03:54 AP was restarted (2m 54s connected)
2011/12/16 10:00:36 AP was restarted (3m 5s connected)
2011/12/16 09:57:10 AP was restarted (3m 15s connected)
2011/12/16 09:53:38 AP was restarted (2m 54s connected)
2011/12/16 09:50:24 AP was restarted (3m 14s connected)
2011/12/16 09:46:51 AP was restarted (3m 9s connected)
2011/12/16 09:43:20 AP was restarted (2m 55s connected)
2011/12/16 09:40:07 AP was restarted (3m 4s connected)

The AP working fine for a few months but it started happening exactly after I upgraded to version 2.2.0. I think it has to do with this software.

Thanks

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

One of our technicians, think its a earth loop from the power supply.
Likely a power supply related problem (bad neutral to ground - which could be called an "earth loop" in a sense), but not an earth ground loop against the radio as the PoE voltage pairs are floating above earth ground.

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

We have a PicoStation2-HP and are having the same trouble. The unit reboots for no apparent reason. I found that the unit was plugged into a surge suppressor, but not on UPS. I moved it to UPS power and it's still rebooting - so far about 8am, and again about 9:05am that we've noticed.

I've sent a message into Ubiquity support and hope to hear an answer from them.
The AP is in a small office setting, currently on a UPS. The AP is only 7 feet away from it's power supply.

Anyone have an idea?

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

I'm having a similar issue with a UAP rebooting at random (anywhere from every few hours to every few days). I've swapped out the POE injector and cabling and still the same thing. The POE is plugged into a UPS about 50 feet away.

I also have a UAP-outdoor on the same network, plugged into a different ups, that never reboots (30+ days of uptime).

Any ideas?

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

I RMA'd mine as Jerry suggested, they sent me a brand new one, and it works fine so far.

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

We have 6AP on a PoE switch, and 1 AP on PoE Injector.
Everything was fine, the Injector AP stays online for a long time, but those on the switch resets/reboots every few minutes 1-5min.
Why can this be...?

Re: AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

Same issue here with reboots. A few difference:

1. My UAP reboots less frequently (about once every day or so).

2. I have a UAP-outdoor on the same network and it almost never reboots on its own (weeks of uptime). This is true even when the UAP is disconnected and ALL clients are accessing through the UAP-outdoor.

3. There is a heavy bandwidth load on this UAP - two workstations both streaming surveillance video (a total of about 3.5 MB/s sustained)

4. I have replaced the POE, cabling (switched to shielded), and the UAP itself with no improvement

5. I had been running WPA2 only...now switching to "Both" / "Auto" to see if this makes a difference

unifi reboots

Hi
we are experiencing the same issue since a couple of weeks.
For the last few days the network has become unusable, sometimes with reboots every few minutes. We have a large network with over hundred Unifis, and most of them reboot at the same time.
Other times users can connect to the SSID but as soon as they try to reach a web page the Unifi reboots. It then goes into provisioning mode and after about a minute it is online again. Some of them fail to reconnect, going in "disconnected" or "adoption failed" mode.
We are running version 2.2.3.
What can cause this behavior?
Thanks

AP rebooting every 20 minutes or less

Thanks for your reply.
As I mentioned the network consists of more than a hundred unifis and they all seem to be affected by the same problem. Is changing them the only solution?
Thanks
