RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

I have a single UniFi AP, brand new out of the box (QC Test Date 03/13/2012). It was factory installed with Firmware v1.3.3. I installed the UniFi Controller Software v2.2.5 on a Windows XP SP3 machine running the latest JRE. All appears to be running properly with the exception of the firmware upgrade to v2.2.5.

The AP shows up in the UniFi controller and begins the adoption process, then indicates "Upgrading" for several minutes, followed by "Disconnected". This cycle goes on indefinitely with the AP never being "Connected" and usable. I am able to SSH into the AP just fine, and have tried various options found in the forums to get it working, including factory resets and manual firmware installation attempts. This is where I think I've isolated the problem. With any firmware version I attempt to install manually, I always receive the U-Boot Environment error shown below.

I noticed this same error in another post, with the same running firmware version (1.3.3). Is this a known issue with v1.3.3? If so, is there a solution to get around this problem? Thank you for your help!

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

To TFTP flash the UAP, I'll need to take it apart and also have onhand a TTL serial cable? If that's correct, this doesn't look good to the client we're demo'ing these to on Friday. This one will be DOA in their eyes...

UBNT Wiki for AirOS 3/4 and find TFTP instructions.

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

I was able to get this UniFi AP up and running without upgrading the firmware (still v1.3.3). To do this, I downloaded and installed the UniFi Controller v1.3.2 and disabled the auto firmware upgrade function before adopting this AP.
So it seems functional and throughput is quite good using the UniFi controller v1.3.2 and the single UniFi AP using firmware 1.3.3.
I was not able to find version 1.3.3 of the UniFi Controller software... is there a reason it's not available? My short term goal was to be able to provide a demo to a client tomorrow (Friday) and it looks like I will be able to do that without upgrading from the older versions. Going forward, is there something else that can be done through the SSH console to upgrade the firmware manually? I would think that opening up the AP would void the warranty.
Can a Ubiquiti engineer help with the firmware upgrade options, and also confirm the warranty status with opening up the unit to attempt a TFTP upgrade?
Thanks!

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

Jerry, the solution you provided worked perfectly! Thank you so much for the prompt support! I was really dreading having to explain the issue with the test AP to the client tomorrow during the demo.
One of their IT guys already knows about the issue I was having, so I'll explain the solution to him, but for the rest of the staff... the issue never existed! Thanks again!

Tocnon, what was the solution?

UBNT-Jerry responded earlier with the solution, but removed his posting afterwards. I believe this was because the URL to the patch code was temporary... and probably not something that they generally want to post unless the very specific situation comes up.

Essentially, the problem was that the UBoot partition in memory was corrupted and failed the CRC check when it was called up. Therefore, the firmware upgrade process would fail. Jerry posted a short image file for the Uboot memory partition, so I downloaded that, wrote it to memory... and wala, the firmware upgraded without a problem.

Jerry mentioned in his post that this was an odd issue-- hopefully a one time thing.

I'll have to defer to UBNT-Jerry... the URL he posted was a temp one. I did not keep the URL and the update file was lost when the unit upgraded and reset.

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

We have same issue. We tried TFTP - both on Win and Linux TFTP, neither worked. We also tried to replace the 2.2.0 firmware on the server and it didn't upgrade to this one as well.

We were able to SSH the unit - can you send the commands to upgrade via SSH? Or post formal solution to update the unit firmware?
prompt response will be very much Appreciate .

Vince, sent you a PM about the fix.
Guys, if you still have the package/box, could you PM me the "Test Date" and "Tester"? Thanks.

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

Bump!

I am having the same issue the ubnt controller hangs at "Upgrading and restarting....".

Im going to try and throw another one I have with me up and see if it works.

Edit: 2nd device will not update as well. I uninstalled the controller and did a hardware reset on both devices. No dice.

So far 1/3 devices have updated. Not a very good first impression of this system if you ask me.

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

Same problem here Jerry. 1 out of 9 APs has been stuck at upgrading for weeks.
If it is possible to fix it without RMAing it would be great.
I think i have the packaging lying around somewhere, will look for it.

Re: RESOLVED: UniFi AP Firmware 1.3.3 Won't Upgrade

So I found a solution to my problem!

I had to uninstall the controller software, and factory reset the AP.

Then I downloaded the 2.2.5 installer of ubnt.com. Now it says its 2.2.5 and I have all the updated features.

All fixed.
