UniFi stuck in adopting mode

I reset the UniFi AP by logging into it via ssh, and run the reset.. and my new controller cannot adopt it.

It says its adopting and seems to just be stuck in that phase? Any ideas why?

Re: UniFi stuck in adopting mode

Set the inform URL manually, via the information at the page below in the FAQ.

Think this has done the trick :mantongue:

Re: UniFi stuck in adopting mode

I had one new unit that had similar issues being adopted when first installed. I put another unit in that location and a day or so later installed that unit in another place (on a different cable, etc.) and it was happily adopted relatively quickly.

it would be good so ...
All I have is on the table and checked all the wires ...
entered through ssh and all teams get an answer:

-sh: apt-key: not found
BZ.v1.2.3# edit /etc/apt/sources.list

Hold up......Your using commands for a Ubuntu controller not an AP.....
You want to log into the AP and run
mca-cli

Then run
set-inform http://ip-of-controller:8080/inform

where you replace "ip-of-controller" with your actual controller IP
Also, what was your old controller version and what is your new controller version? I think some folks had an issue jumping from early 1.x to 2.2 and had to use an intermediate controller version to update the firmware

mca-cli

what it is?

set-inform http://ip-of-controller:8080/inform

where you replace "ip-of-controller" with your actual controller IP

it's there and Discovery Utility.
the controller can not add, have tried many times ..

Re: UniFi stuck in adopting mode

Those commands manually set the controller IP in the AP.
What version was your last controller and what version is your new controller?

Re: UniFi stuck in adopting mode

The firmware 1.2.3 is too old and doesn't have mca-cli.

Would you run the following command on your AP (with your controller ip)?

syswrapper.sh upgrade http://:8080/dl/firmware/BZ2/2.2.5.1080/firmware.bin

Re: UniFi stuck in adopting mode

Thank you! Excellent!
all this was, it was connected.
But as soon as I set it to a static IP, she went back to waiting and waiting for the status... adopting...
it remained unchanged in the IP DHCP
what to do with it next?
Model UniFi AP
Version 2.2.5.1080
I tried to make the team
mca-cli
set-inform 10.0.0.5:8080/inform
command is passed, but adopting the same

Re: UniFi stuck in adopting mode

After tinkering with round plates, DHСP server on which the AP Controller is no longer visible. And resetting it does not help.
AP Controller as its blocks. DHСP with it does not work, but managed to pick up a plate via a standard IP.

Could you PM me the /var/log/messages from the unit that's not connected?

We're adding a command to make this trouble-shooting easier.

Jerry, We are installing Unifi Pico's in a Camp Ground right now... and we keep running into new Unifi AP's we pop up getting stuck in adopting and then fail or it will say adopting wireless then fail. will this code help fix this problem? we are running a Class B DHCP
Via LocoM5's to UnifiPicoM2's we are also running the latest firmware
Thanks,

1. are you using wireless uplink?
2. On controller, what's the IP that you see of the AP?
3. take a look at /var/log/messages of the AP, if it's too cryptic, PM me.

The command in the new firmware basically shows if AP is connected to a controller, if not, what was the last error.

Wireless option when not using the connection, after all when it is configured.

After you reinstall Win2k3 server from scratch and replace MS Win DHCP on the Kerio Win Route DHCP they were normally picks up. after already when the event ended, moved all guest VLAN in a network and tried to pick up another one AP, even when the working Win 2k3 DHCP (192.168.0.0 /255.255.252.0), but she stubbornly does not see. again had to devote a separate VLAN and enable DHCP server, Kerio, only picked up a ...
until the output is that they do not support the MS DHCP server.
second difficulty is the inclusion of new AP, they are not all on the switch are flashing, it is necessary to reset a few times.

How to Fix the "Stuck in Adopting" Problem (at least my approach)

OK, so I read a zillion posts here and elsewhere when my new UniFi LR was stuck in "Adopting" mode. Then I spent an entire day trying things. Here is the solution that finally worked.

First, download PuTTY so you can ssh into the UniFi AP
www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

Connect the UniFi AP to your router (I assume your router is set for DHCP).

Login to the router and find the IP address assigned to:
(a) The AP
(b) Your PC/laptop
You will need both IP addresses.

Download and install the latest version of the UniFi Controller software on your PC.
It is noted as: UniFi-installer.exe
www.ubnt.com/download#UniFi:AP

HERE IS THE KEY . When you install the controller, it creates a subdirectory that also has the new firmware needed for the UniFi AP. This took me a long time to figure out. You need the same firmware version on the AP as Controller version on your PC. Otherwise the AP will no Adopt .

After installing the UniFi Controller on your PC, you need to find the name of the subdirectory of the firmware binary.
For me it was here: dl/firmware/BZ2/2.3.8.1597/firmware.bin

Start PuTTY and connect to the IP address of your AP. The default user ID and password are both: ubnt

Issue the two commands below using the IP address of your COMPUTER, not the AP:

/etc/bin
Syswrapper.sh upgrade
Your output (on the PuTTY screen) should be this (between the lines of stars):
**********************...

147.201.1.120:8080/dl/firmware/BZ2/2.3.8.
1597/firmware.bin
--2012-10-28 19:43:35-- 147.201.1.120:8080/dl/firmware/BZ2/2.3.8.1597/firmware.bin
Connecting to 147.201.1.120:8080... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 5055612 (4.8M)
Saving to: `/tmp/fwupdate.bin'

100% 5,055,612 1.08M/s in 4.7s

2012-10-28 19:43:40 (1.03 MB/s) - `/tmp/fwupdate.bin' saved

+ exec
**********************************************

When the firmware upgrade is complete, enter the command:
/usr/bin/mca-dump

You should see a lot of statistics on the AP including these:

"model_display": "UAP-LR",
"version": "2.3.8.1597",

This confirms that the upgrade took place.

Start the Controller on your PC.

On the PuTTY screen, issue the two commandsusing the IP address of your COMPUTER, not the AP:

BZ.v2.3.8# mca-cli
UniFi# set-inform 147.201.1.120:8080/inform

You will see the response:
**********************************************
Adoption request sent to 'http://147.201.1.120:8080/inform'.

1. please adopt it on the controller
2. issue the set-inform command again
3. will be saved after device is successfully managed

UniFi#

**********************************************

Wait for the AP to be adopted by the Controller software

Issue the set-inform command again as noted.

Wait again for the AP to be adopted.

YOU ARE DONE!!!!!

It is a good idea to restart the AP to verify that it will be adopted by the controller.

You can now proceed with other configuration options of the AP>

Good Luck !!!!!
