Revolution Announcement

I just received an email stating that Ubiquiti is going to have an announcement at WISPAPALOOZA 'that will start a revolution.'  Does anyone know what this is?

Re: Revolution Announcement

I have guesses... due to key phrases like, "If you are an airMAX user, you will want to join us for a special event during".... but no firm ideas.  Exciting though!

If you are an airMAX user, you will want to join us for a special event during WISPAPALOOZA 2013 in Las Vegas. If you can't make it to Las Vegas we will have a live online webcast so you can hear all the news from CEO Robert Pera.

Re: Revolution Announcement

I got that email, too.

Anything revolutionary will never outshine ice cream, though. Ice cream is the best.

Re: Revolution Announcement

Based on how quiet it's been for a while i think they will release whatever it is much faster then before. Now if they can ship 1 million units in the first month is a another question.

Uhm.

That's not going to happen. Ubiquiti doesn't work quite in that volume... at all. It took quite awhile (7 years?) for them to hit their 10 million device.

Re: Revolution Announcement

I call an Airfiber platform based, Airbeam AP. Airmax and AirFiber development has been pretty quiet. From what I have read around here, Airbeam has never been officially killed. But they must have run into some obsticals they couldn't overcome with the current Airmax platform. We know they aren't going to let the Airfiber team sit around and tinker with firmware updates. They have their own radio platform now with Airfiber. It has always been strongly hinted that the 24 was just the beginning. If they truly want to break into the Motorola space, they have to improve their subscriber and range capability. With the Airfiber platform they are free of Atheros and any hinderences there. They've got the talent, I think we are going to see what they've been working on for the last year and a half.

Re: Revolution Announcement

I think you may be spot on with your analysis of things. I would love to see a true microwave PtMP radio with their own silicone!

Re: Revolution Announcement

Maybee short range product 802.11AC 60 or 80GHz band :mansad: . If there will be no lower bands (17GHz for part of EU or so) - that mean only fort short range :mansad: . Anyway it will be probably only anouncements...1-2 years to market :mansad: .

I vote for 17GHz AirFiber version:icon_lol: .

Re: Revolution Announcement

Most probably Airfiber based silicon on PtMP. I have mixed feelings though. We have thousands of Airmax radios deployed and all will be outdated :mansad:

On the other hand, I am excited to see the next step in WISP industry.

I think that is called planned obsolescence and is how one sells more product.

3-5 Years is the average life span of a wifi product. For those who aren't setting aside a portion of your budget for upgrades, you're doing it wrong :mantongue:

3-5 Years ?  Upgrades ???   Clearly you haven't studied the Lemming method of business planning.

Re: Revolution Announcement

LOL... agreed.  Plus, I doubt Ubiquiti is going to abandon airMax products any time soon.  Even if this is brand new silicone airMax will still have its place for several more years.
