extend both ping and traceroute commands to allow for the source ip/interface

Status: New Idea

It would be nice to see an extension to current traceroute/ping commands so that the source ip could be specified - without the need to use sudo and compatibile with operator level access.

Could this be implemented please?

ping and traceroute are both shell aliases.  You can either specify the path explicitly or escape the alias:

/bin/ping or \ping

/usr/bin/traceroute or \traceroute

thanks waterside, but thats not what I am asking for. $ \traceroute -s 1.2.3.4 8.8.8.8 traceroute: you must be root <---- I have a use case and want to be able to use traceroute with specifing a source IP (-s flag) as a non administrative user.
