Static MAC/IP mapping

Static MAC/IP mapping is a nice feature, where I can assign static IP within the DHCP server adresses. However when I define IP addresses within the DHCP address range, the number of available pool does not get reduced.

I would think that for example when I have 5 dhcp ip addresses (from x.x.x.250 to x.x.x.254), the GUI would display 5 for pool size and 4 available but actually what I see is 5 for pool size and 5 available. Is this behaviour expected.

I did refresh the GUI, still the same.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

It's a bug, I saw the same under the CLI -

ubnt@Etr# run show dhcp leases
IP address Hardware Address Lease expiration Pool Client Name
----------      ----------------   ----------------     ----       -----------
192.168.241.42  08:00:27:d9:5f:73  2013/05/13 01:49:39  Test241    IE8Win7
[edit]
ubnt@Etr# run show dhcp
client      leases      statistics
[edit]
ubnt@Etr# run show dhcp statistics
pool pool size # leased # avail
----                           ---------  --------   -------
Test241                               90         1        89
[edit]
ubnt@Etr# show service dhcp-server shared-network-name Test241 subnet 192.168.241.0/24 | grep static-mapping
     static-mapping Edgeos-autotest {
     static-mapping Edgeos-test2-pc {
     static-mapping Test2-pc-dev0 {
     static-mapping dut1 {
     static-mapping dut1-poe {
     static-mapping dut2 {
     static-mapping dut3 {
     static-mapping vtester {
[edit]
ubnt@Etr# show service dhcp-server shared-network-name Test241 subnet 192.168.241.0/24 start 192.168.241.10
 stop 192.168.241.99
[edit]

 We'll track this issue internally, shouldn't be too hard to fix. Thanks.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

Has a fix to this bug been figured out as of yet? I have the problem as well.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

Bump.  We are now up to version 1.6.0 and this bug still seems to be there. Is there an official bug report on this?

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

Yeah actually this (Web UI display) is already being worked on and hopefully we can get it into the next alpha/beta.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

Thanks for the update.  The CLI bug also still seems to be there, so the fix doesn't seem to be in just the Web UI.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

If I want to use the Static MAC/IP Mapping feature in DHCP Server, is it recommended that I use an IP address within the DHCP pool? Or should I use an address outside of the pool?

I believe both choices seem to work, but I would like to know if there is a recommended choice.

Thanks!

Within the pool, so the clients stay in the same subnet.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

I don't understand... Usually the pool is just chunk in the middle of the subnet, so there are plenty of non-pool addresses within the subnet for client-set-static-IPs and DHCP-server-set-static-mappings (also known as DHCP reservations)

e.g.
subnet: 10.0.0.0 / 16
DHCP pool: 10.0.100.100 to 10.0.200.240

An IP 10.0.5.5 would be in the subnet, but outside of the DHCP pool, right?

I might have misread however I'd simply use IP addresses within the pool for the static mapping.

Re: Static MAC/IP mapping

Ok, I did according to Arthur's recommendation.

Pool size decremented as expected. (v1.7.0 here)
