ER-X SFP as FTTH GPON ONU/ONT replacement fail.

Hello, everybody.

I've tried everything. Two latest ER-X SFP firmwares. 5(!) D-Link DPN-100 firmwares.

Bridging wan to lan0 in SFP module. Manually running dhclient -v on eth5.3 and eth5.

And it still defunct. There is no DHCP, routing or Internet on eth5/eth5.3 though I can see incoming traffic on the web interface GUI and everything works fine in module OS while ER-X SFP is seted as switch.

The config is just basic wizard defaults. What's the problem here? ER-X SFP is incompatible with D-Link DPN-100?

Why I am doing this at all? Because default ONU sucks.

Any ideas how to get this done? Get mediaconverter and just plug everything in eth0? Try to configure VLAN on ER-X manually?

Here it goes the network scheme:

ER-X SFP web gui output:

SFP module ifconfig output in switch mode:

Re: ER-X SFP as FTTH GPON ONU/ONT replacement fail.

This is probably not possible to do without understanding the ISP's network layout so I would ask them.

If the ISP is providing you something already routed, then you don't need to route, just setup as a switch.

If you want to route a second time, or it needs to be routed, then I don't think the wizzard allows eth5 to be WAN.  You would have to set this up manually with the CLI.   I have done this, but there is a number of things that need to be changed.   You can start with a wizzard config, but then need to carefully edit every last reference for eth0 and change to eth5 and there's plenty of places to change in the cli config.

Re: ER-X SFP as FTTH GPON ONU/ONT replacement fail.

So I've tried some manual config and found interesting thing.

dmesg | grep SFP

ethtool eth5

First driver says that SFP module is 1000 full duplex and connected on boot.

But second one just reports that eth5 interface was somehow autonegotiated to 100 half duplex.

If I manually change to 1000 full duplex via config ui it just stop receieves traffic even after reboot because interface must be autionegotiated. So is there some way to autonegotiate eth5 to 1000baseT/Full?

Who provided the D-Link DPN-100? Did you purchase it thirdparty or was it ISP provided?

If the screenshot is right then it is running at 103°C which is way more than the 60°C max working temperature on the data sheet.

You should be able to telnet into the device on 192.168.1.1. Set an appropriate IP on eth5 and give it a go from the ER-X

Thirdparty.

Temperature sensor is a random lie. I can hold it with my bare hands it's ~50-60 deg like cup of hot tea. Enough for thing that shot lasers.

Yeah I thought so too when purchased it.

Yes I can even ping something from OpenWRT installed there. The ISP IP and traffic is on wan.3 interface.

So I just ignored ethtool negotiation to halfduplex and tried packet capture on eth5. The only packet it receieves is this:

STP 802.1w, Rapid STP, Flags [Proposal, Agreement], bridge-id 8000.xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:9f.8002, length 47

Then I've also tried put eth5 to switch0 then get dhcp on switch0.3 vlan. Nothing.

It appears that module itself just do not know whether it's plugged to router or to switch and ER-SFP-X treated as switch by default.

All I need is wan.3 from module as eth5.3 or eth5 on ER-X SFP.

So If anyone knows how to tell SFP module os to treat device it plugged in as wan router or tell ER-X SFP to get traffic not from module lan0 interface but wan.3 please share the infromation. After basic setup as router module still thinks it's a switch and sends RSTP there.

Next I've done even more research and found this line in tr069_def_cfg_file in module firmware root folder.

I made switch0 aware of vlan 46 then put eth5 to switch0 and created switch0.46 and switch0.3 vlans. And tried some more combinations with vlans 3 and 46 on both eth5 and switch0. Still nothing happens.

Is there some kind of reptilian illuminati conspiracy behind this ONU-SFP modules setup?
