ERL3 Streaming TV lags during surfing the net - Orange fibre POE Poland

Hello :)

I've got problem with configuration Edge Router Lite 3 for Orange in Poland (TV, VOD, FIBRE) - POE.

On the first view everything looks good, TV, VOD and NET are working. But...
when I'm watching TV and the other person are using net the TV stream shows lags/freezes/frags.

This looks good with offloading enabled. What throughput are you getting? Your throughput may have been reduced by enabling mss clamping and changing the PPPoE interface MTU. Try taking the MTU settings off of your PPPoE interface and removing MSS clamping to determine if that's the root cause. Also expand your MTU on your physical eth1 interface back to 1540. Your ISP may support oversized frames on your WAN connection and you may not have to worry about PPPoE encapsulation overhead.

Nothing is wrong with your configuration. What you are seeing is an example of what happens when there is congestion on your network with best effort QoS. If you want to avoid impact to the video streams you need to implement QoS and either rate-limit your non-video traffic or prioritize your video traffic.

I'm not sure what your ISP speeds are but the simplest way would be to rate-limit under the video rates. I'd account for 30mbit/video stream. If you have a 500mbit connection then that would be 500mbit-30mbit=470mbit for the video stream overhead. You can modify the "rate 470mbit" belows based off of what you would think is correct.

Do you notice a difference in your speedtest? If not, try reversing the numbers you are using for download/upload. I've never applied this to a PPPoE interface. Did you try with the original eth0.35?

I have tested this configuration, with wan interface pppoe0 and eth0.35

With ppoe0 I have got slow internet (about 100 Mbps) and tv stream lags.

With eth0.35 I have no internet, tv is working - can't test lags without internet.

 

What is wrong?

Very interesting. Out of curiousity, try applying it to interface eth2.

 

I just realized you are using an Edgerouter Lite. This platform does not support hardware offloading for certain features. See: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/EdgeMAX/EdgeRouter-Lite-NAT-Firewall-performance-tests/m-p/1638994

 

Still, let's see what performance looks like with QoS applied to eth2.

Try the folowing:

set system offload ipv4 forwarding enable
set system offload ipv4 pppoe enable
set system offload ipv4 vlan enable

We may be able to get some more performance out of offloading the features that ARE supported.

With this new config from france forum I don't have lagging TV.

 

But i have got problem with internet connection. After restarting Edge Router Lite 3 i have to log into web gui, then config tree and change:

This looks good with offloading enabled. What throughput are you getting? Your throughput may have been reduced by enabling mss clamping and changing the PPPoE interface MTU. Try taking the MTU settings off of your PPPoE interface and removing MSS clamping to determine if that's the root cause. Also expand your MTU on your physical eth1 interface back to 1540. Your ISP may support oversized frames on your WAN connection and you may not have to worry about PPPoE encapsulation overhead.

New config with your tips is good Man Happy

The speed is ok, there is no lags on tv stream.

But i have got 2 problems:

1. Some pages doesnt load like speedtest.net, ubnt.com. Why? For example google.com youtube.com etc are loading correctly.

2. I can't access in web gui in Edge Router Lite 3 to some tabs like Firewall, Qos, Users etc. After clicking nothing happens. Are they disabled in web gui in this config?

Internet: Fast with problems, some pages doesn't load, some are loading correctly

TV stream: ok with no problems

 

In new_config.boot I have tried to modify MTU on ONT port to 1540, but this change causes no internet connection.

Did you swap interfaces somewhere? I see you were using eth1 at one point for WAN and now I see eth0?
