If 'show system boot-image' does not show a newer version is available to be installed then you are good.  This KB article may be of some help, showing an example when a newer bootloader is available:

FWIW My ER-4 shows the same bootloader version, and I have confirmed this is the version of the bootloader provided with firmware 1.10.8.

Careful if updating bootloader and you are running the kernel for SFE.  I didn't realize there was another bootloader update for the ERL with 1.10.8 and loaded the SFE stuff and then completed the bootloader update after, and then had a md5 error with vmlinux.64 or whatever the file is and had to recreate my usb drive from scratch to get a functional router back.

Re: EdgeMAX EdgeRouter software version v1.10.8 has been released!

I am using EdgeRouter X SFP and have installed 1.10.8.

I checked boot image

admin@ubnt:~$ show system boo
boot-image boot-messages
admin@ubnt:~$ show system boot-image
The system currently has the following boot image installed:
Current boot version: UNKNOWN
Current boot md5sum : 7580ebd7ce9303243292f586ab7c6daf

New uboot version is available: boot_e51_001_1e49c.tar.gz
New boot md5sum : e2a286b6ff09ce6d14f631dafaff6027
Run "add system boot-image" to upgrade boot image.

Should I uppgrade bootimage? or is it not for my X SFP?

If you are referring to this:  Qualcomm Fast Path (SFE) for the EdgeRouters beware that is an unsupported custom kernel provided by the community.

If you are using any non-standard (IE: non-UBNT-supported) kernel you should always revert to the proper supported kernel before performing any upgrades of firmware and/or bootloaders.  Such issues as you found are not unexpected, and in fact should actually be expected when keeping custom kernels in place during any type of vendor-provided update.

After such updates complete with success using the standard supported kernel, then any custom kernel may be put back in place.

Yes you can.  You do not need to, but there is indeed a valid update available.

The ER-X has had an updated bootloader availalable for a long time, but it has a special process to apply.  That is noted in these threads (among others), the first of which is referenced in a sticky at the top of this forum:

Your existing bootloader, based on the MD5 sum, appears to be already updated with the version in the threads above.  It looks like another update was provided for the ER-X witih this firmware.

There appear to be at least four bootloaders for the ER-X now, of which the one included with 1.10.x is the latest.  None of the release notes identify anything specific for the ER-X, though it is possible this adds generic functionality and/or fixes that span all platforms.

The proper native edgeos command you used (show system boot-image) identifies there is an update available for the bootloader, so you can trust that on that particular ER-X the bootloader update would apply (IE: it is for your ER-X).

Re: EdgeMAX EdgeRouter software version v1.10.8 has been released!

[ Edited ]

I updated my EdgeMAX poe-5 from v1.8.5  to this v1.10.8, and it works fine.

xxxx@ubnt:~$ show system image storage
Image name Read-Only Read-Write Total
------------------------------ ------------ ------------ ------------
v1.10.8.5142440.181120.1645 79232 1128 80360
v1.8.5.4884695.160608.1057 78092 21436 99528
xxxx@ubnt:~$ show system image
The system currently has the following image(s) installed:

v1.10.8.5142440.181120.1645 (running image) (default boot)
v1.8.5.4884695.160608.1057

But for bootloader, I am not sure if I need update to boot_e101_002_20738.tar.gz as well?

xxxx@ubnt:~$ show system boot-image
The system currently has the following boot image installed:
Current boot version: UNKNOWN
Current boot md5sum : 88c6a0589afe7efe79d3ea46c195002b

New uboot version is available: boot_e101_002_20738.tar.gz
New boot md5sum : c352f964eab041a3ffc47bd559a3f43a
Run "add system boot-image" to upgrade boot image.

Thank you UBNT guys for hard work to release so many firmwares. Man Happy, by the way why we have so many signihgs.

Nevermind.  The ERX ran out of memory while doing apt-get update.  Deleting the old system image did the trick.

Re: EdgeMAX EdgeRouter software version v1.10.8 has been released!

[ Edited ]

xactly the same problem here.

Upgrade from 10.6 to either 10.7 or 10.8 using the Web UI reports upload failed, though if you then reboot the router it seems to run 10.8 OK.

I thought it might be due to not enough space, but same error occurs if I delete the stored config before upgrade. I have not tried upgrading using the CLI.

I have kept the support and config files from before and after upgrade in case they are any help.

Below is the content of the ubnt-rtr-ui.log immediately after failure (ie before reboot):

Re: EdgeMAX EdgeRouter software version v1.10.8 has been released!

If you are referring to the reference in the release notes to upgrade failing due to insufficient memory then I do not think that is the explanation here. As I said in my post I deleted the previous image to release memory space and the failure still occurred.

So far updated two ER8-Pros from 1.10.7. Went smoothly, with no issues. Another ER8-Pro at a 3rd site that is also a DHCP server will have to wait for another maintenance window.

ER8 stuck in a boot loop after update from 1.10.1 to 1.10.8.  I posted a separate topic here:

Re: EdgeMAX EdgeRouter software version v1.10.8 has been released!

I got a very strange behaviour with upgrading a ER-PoE from 1.10.6 to 1.10.8. After the first reboot to apply the update the Webinterface was just showing 'Render error: TypeError: 'undefined' is not an object (evaluating 'this.model.get')'. Then I made a reboot through SSH. After this reboot the device wasn't working anymore. A look via Console Cable showed that at least half of my interfaces were missing and also other configurations weren't there anymore. If I was trying to add those interfaces again over Console Cable I just got a Message like "Failed to creating vlan device". Also a Linux message which told that the device is already existing.
