Site-to-site VPN expired

Hi All,

I have two edgerouters (ER-8 & ER-X) connected to each other by a site-to-site vpn. The vpn is working properly but it is losing connectivity after 24 hours (I set 86.400 seconds as lifetime) I can manually restore the connection by restarting the vpn. Is there any option to have an endless connection?

regards,

Patrick

It's fairly normal and typical for a tunnel to drop if no traffic is traversing it.  Does the tunnel not come back up automatically if there's traffic that is supposed to go through it?

Thanks for your reply, at the moment there is no traffic because the VPN is in test phase. The tunnel comes up when traffic is present. Preferably I would like to have the connection always up. Do you know is there is an solution to do this?

You may try with by enabling the Dead Peer Detection.

Re: Site-to-site VPN expired

Thanks! it seems that the problem is solved by the dead-pear-detection.
