saving the date/time between reboots

I just had the ER Pro reset itself (don't think it was a power blip, but whatever). When it booted up it had the wrong date (june 1st). This caused it to not load the config on boot because openvpn had a cert that was created after that default date. My question is, why isn't the date saved between reboots/resets?

Re: saving the date/time between reboots

As discussed before, the hardware design does not include a real-time clock (RTC), so the date/time cannot be preserved. For this particular scenario, might need some mechanism to restart OpenVPN once NTP has updated the time or something like that, and we'd need to look into it.

Ya, if we could I'd like to see some interim solution, a cron that writes the day it is and a rc.local script that restores that on boot would be more then good enough (and not wear out the flash at one write a day).

Yeah a workaround like that would probably work for this purpose (setting a date/time that is not too far off from the current date/time).
