Multiple Taxes

We have two taxes:

Tax1:Excise Duty=15%

Tax2:Value Added Tax(VAT)=16%

The needed formula  is (Principle x Excise Duty) x VAT= Total

The UCRM formula is (Principle x Excise Duty) + (Principle x VAT) = Total

An example: (Principle x Excise Duty) x VAT= Total

Amount Excluding VAT and Excise Duty is Kshs17,240.63,

EXCISE - 15% =Kshs2,586.09

Amount Including Excise Duty=19,826.72

VAT - 16%=Kshs3,172.28

Total=Kshs22,999.00

UCRM Current Calculation: (Principle x Excise Duty) + (Principle x VAT) = Total

Amount Excluding VAT and Excise Duty is Kshs17,240.63,

EXCISE - 15% =Kshs2,586.09

Amount Including Excise Duty=Kshs19,826.72

VAT - 16%=Kshs2,758.50

Total=22,585.22

Hope the UCRM team can look into this. Country is Kenya.

Re: Multiple Taxes

Hi, you are looking for "compound taxation", which is currently not available in UCRM, but there is a workaround for this, read more here: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UCRM/Second-Taxe-as-to-be-calculated-base-on-the-result-of-the-first/m...

Please, create a feature request for a complete solution: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UCRM-Feature-Requests/idb-p/UCRM-Ideas
As soon as this request gets more kudos, we will prioritize its implementation.

Re: Multiple Taxes

The workaround works but isn't right. Icon Smile Having one tax higher will be a explanation nightmare and invoice won't be approved for payment.

Re: Multiple Taxes

@Mathieu this feature has been added to the scope of v2.16. However, the release can be significantly delayed due to the UCRM & UNMS integration which is currently under development.

There are two workarounds but I am afraid none of them complies with your country's requirements:
1) use only one tax (e.g. instead of 10% + 10% compounded use a single tax: 21%)
2) use two taxes but separately (instead of 10% + 10% compounded use: two non-compounded taxes: 10% + 11%) - Note that you use a custom name for the tax, however, the percentage will be shown on the invoice as well.

Both solutions should give you the same total effective rate.

Re: Multiple Taxes

@UBNT-Petr  this will be an issue in parts of the US as well - we ran into this several years ago looking at a nationwide VoIP rollout - there are approximately 318 areas in the US where they do "tax on tax" as well (as opposed to just adding the different municipalities' taxes together - we often have State, County, City and even Special District taxes all on the same thing), and the rates can also change very often - by the time we looked at the entire US there were over 3,000 different tax rates which had to be accounted for.   This is particularly an issue if the taxes are done by user location and not by business location.   In most cases the workaround will be OK initially, but this is one of the things that make billing systems such a hassle here...  ;-)

Re: Multiple Taxes

@eejimm thanks for info. Good to know, this feature is needed by a significant number of WISPs. As mentioned above, it will be added to the next major upgrade, it's not a big deal to develop such an improvement, it just needs some effort and time...

Re: Multiple Taxes

Hi Everyone,

Same problem for me, in Niger,  we have a first tax called Turtel 3% + VAT 19%. VAT is calcullated on the Total price + Turtel. I can't use UCRM only because of that...

Re: Multiple Taxes

Yes, this will be comprised in 2.16. This version has been postponed little bit though due to heavy development of the integration with UNMS.
In a week or so, the stable 2.15 will be released, then we will continue with the development of 2.16beta

Re: Multiple Taxes

The feature has been finished and it's being tested before it goes into a release. 2.16.0-beta4 turns into 2.16 stable (ETA today), and not to delay this release, the compound taxes features will be added to 2.17.0-beta1
