UK english, or edit specific words

In the UK and Ireland, UK english is used, which as far as I can see is near the same as Canadian english.

One difference I have noticed is that the word check, is spelt cheque in Ireland and the UK.

Would it be possible to change just this word on my system so receipts go out with the correct spelling of the payment method.

Im new to this system so could be missing something obvious, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: UK english, or edit specific words

@jameskinlan You can use the following snippet to accomplish that:

{{ payment.method == 'Check' ? 'Cheque' : payment.method }}

Just replace the original placeholder with the above, in the default template it's on line 16 - {{ payment.method }}

Re: UK english, or edit specific words

Hello @jameskinlan, if you need to handle just the payment receipts, you can change the receipt template in System -> Customization -> Receipts.

After you create your custom template (you can just clone the official one and do your changes), you need to configure your Organization to use it in System -> Organizations.

@UBNT-Ondra

Thanks for the quick reply,

Through this mothod can I change the template variable to say Cheque instead of Check?

I know I could edit the template directly to say the text I want, but then would have to change template when users pay by cheque, or use a different payment method.

Hi @jameskinlan ,

A check is to look something over, or a check-mark on paper.

Now a cheque is what customers send us for payment...really like those....almost as much as an E-transfer....or cash on the barrel-head, which is the best!

Re: UK english, or edit specific words

Hi @tuckerdog

Yes, that is the way I would use the two spellings, but in North America (Canada and US) the spelling check is used for both words.

So in the payment area, and on the generated receipts, the spelling used is check.

Attached is the preview/example receipt generated in UCRM, which shows the check issue.

Hi @UBNT-Ondra

I will give that a try and will confirm if it solves my issue.

Thank you

@UBNT-Ondra

Can I confirm the file I should be editing is found at .../system/customization/receipt-templates

And I should be changing line 16 from

<td>{{ payment.method }}</td>

to

<td>{{ payment.method == 'Check' ? 'Cheque' : payment.method }}</td>

Re: UK english, or edit specific words

@UBNT-Ondra Thanks for that.

Also changed line 20 from

<th>{% trans %}Check number{% endtrans %}</th>

to

<th>{% trans %}Cheque number{% endtrans %}</th>

Problem Solved!

@tuckerdog

Ha, sorry about that.

Would you use the Cheque spelling in Canada then?

Mainly going off what came up on UCRM from choosing Canadian English.

I do know the US use check as the spelling.

Re: UK english, or edit specific words

Hey,

No need to be sorry...you wouldn't know.

Yes, we use cheque....for now.

Having the U.S. right below us and using "English" as they do, I see our next generations here using the Americanization of lots of words, pronunciations, fads, etc.  This is happening as the U.S. produces much of the television shows and movies we consume.

Our culture will withstand the use of check instead of cheque, as most people have seen/used it that way, already....there are lots, but one is colour (U.S.=color), another is we say ZED for the letter Z, whereas the U.S. says ZEE.....they say "Ya-know?" or "Uh-hu" and we say "Eh?" or "You betcha!", and a ton of others...(or is that tonne?).

It's all about common use, and U.S=325 million people to Canada=37 million people kinda sets the pace.
