Letsencrypt "can only be used for FQDN"

I am currently strugginling to get letsencrypt working on our UNMS server. The error we are getting is below:

Last refresh of SSL certificate had failed.

Timestamp: Today at 9:43
Error: Let's Encrypt can only be used for fully qualified domain names.
Keeping existing certificate for 'unms.NAME.uk'.

NAME is a placeholder

I am pretty sure we are using the FQDN, using exactly that with HTTP from the internet loads the redirect to HTTPS on port 443 and the web interface of UNMS. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

Re: Letsencrypt "can only be used for FQDN"

Hi @Raxxor
So if you access http://unms.NAME.uk/.well-known/ then it redirects https://unms.NAME.uk/.well-known/ ?
Are you using the built-in Nginx or your own custom reverse proxy?

@flamber

Yes that is how it redirects.

I am just using the built in reverse proxy

@Raxxor Hello David. Please check your Settings -> UNMS -> UNMS hostname/IP value for any potential typos and make sure it is valid.

Re: Letsencrypt "can only be used for FQDN"

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I have just given this a go, I realised that I had omitted the https:// but UNMS would not accept this (see image). Without the https:// it will accept it but I still get the error. I have checked the hostname and copied it to a browser and it does navigate to our UNMS server.

Re: Letsencrypt "can only be used for FQDN"

@UBNT-Radek Oh man. I can’t believe it was that easy. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how to do this on digital ocean droplet where I’m running UNMS. I had to input the FQDN on unms hostname field and saved settings. https works now. MANY THANKS!

Re: Letsencrypt "can only be used for FQDN"

@UBNT-Radek this may be more an issue of why my UNMS installation will not accept HTTPS:// infront of the FQDN then.

Re: Letsencrypt "can only be used for FQDN"

@Raxxor  Hello David. The https:// should not be there, just the FQDN. Disregard my screenshot please, it was taken in the presentation mode where this field is not validated properly. We will need your full FQDN to analyze why does it give you the error. Please, send it to the email radek.skrivan(at)ubnt.com, and include your forum name and URL of this thread in the message.
