This year during WISPAPALOOZA, WISPA would like to hold an official backhaul competition.
The original idea was to do indoor / bench testing and share all the results.
We'd prefer to do real world testing, in real environments
Do we have any WISPS in the Las Vegas area that could help us out for a day -- open to suggestions!

I've got a suggestion, Matt. Rooftop Rio lounge to shooting range, about 16 miles to the North. I bet we could set something up temporarily at the shooting range...at least there's power there, but even solar is possible.

It would be cool to do it from the top of the Rio. They have the Voodoo (I think it's called that) bar on the 50th floor, but doubt their patrons would like all the dishes. I have no idea how to go about getting roof access; I think we'd need someone local for that...

With WISPA bringing a conference to the Rio, I imagine they (Rio) could be accommodative of special requests.
Doubt the Rooftop bar gets much traffic in the morning...

I'm coming out early (for Fiber Weekend) and driving to boot, so if I can help with things let me know.
Do you think they would let us put up an AF5 or even an AF24HD? How about 4 conbined AF5Xs? Or would that be cheating...

Anyway, for a temp set up, non-penetrating bases with 6-8 feet of pipe would probably be enough at both ends.

We're the biggest wisp in vegas (lv.net) and attending wispapalooza & willing to help. we have many rooftops in the surrounding areas to the rio as well.

Why did UBNT back out of the backhaul competition?
Don't know for sure, but the tests were not being conducted using scientific method based on standard test procedures.

Give me a budget, and I'll set it up

Yeah, an outdoor test is the only valid test. Labs have isolation chambers so you can find huge swaths of noise free spectrum that never exist in real life. We don't run our backhauls in a lab. We need to see which radio deals with noise and adjacent channel rejection better.

I don't think it was the equipment. There were parameters that seemd slanted. They didn't do bi-directional test, and only 2 of the devices fit the 80+ category, which was not disclosed.
