Bad Certificate Error

I keep getting a "Bad Certificate" error when attempting to download from Unifi Protect.  I also see the https error in the upper left hand corner of Chrome.

I've searched Google, but I cannot find any straightforward instructions on how to obtain the "Cloud Key" certificate and to install it in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store.

Can anyone give me some guidance on how to do this?   I'm only using the device locally and access it via its IP address.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

I got the same error when logged in via local address. I  was then able to log in via the cloud access and download a backup file without any issues on Chrome.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

@Advocate99,

You typically should not have to install any certificates. Can you confirm this isn't an issue if you connect via https://protect.ui.com?

Re: Bad Certificate Error

I'm getting the same certificate error in chrome. I tried it on 3 PC's and I get the same thing. What's interesting is it works 100% on Safari from my mac. I tried everything to make it work in chrome. I even imported the cert as root and it still doesn't work. Chrome says its a valid cert if you look at the cert properties.

There must be something odd about the cert that makes it incompatible. It is preventing me from downloading a backup file for protect because it says the cert is invalid.

Please let me know what is up with this @UBNT-Cody

Thank You

Re: Bad Certificate Error

I will say that safari gives you the option to "Trust" the source the first time you go to the untrusted URL. Maybe thats the difference from Chrome.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

I was able to get it to work by downloading the certificate and then adding it to the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" tab in the Google Chrome Certificate Manager.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

I suggest that you double check and make sure that it was installed in the correct folder.  Chrome's process for installing certificates is a bit kludgy, and it's easy to think you're installing the certificate in one folder when you have actually installed it in another.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

We've reproduced this internally, but it's sporadic and seems to be related to Chrome's handling of certificates, as suspected. Options are being investigated - in the meantime we recommend downloading via https://protect.ui.com/, or using Firefox if you do not wish to manage the CK via the Cloud service.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

Please make sure Chrome is up-to-date (should be version 73). If you are up-to-date and are still getting the error, can you please post your OS/Chrome version here.

Thanks.

Re: Bad Certificate Error

I went from v72.0.3626.121 (Official Build) (64-bit) to v73.0.3683.86 (Official Build) (64-bit)
It did not fix anything. The error message in the browser says "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID"

When I open in Safari, it works fine.

Do we really have a choice on versions?  Is there a way to downgrade?
