UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

[ Edited ]

The network I work with is heavily segmented. Is there a way to adopt or manually add cameras to UniFi Protect using the IP address or the camera's web interface? Or as this is beta will that kind of feature be comming?

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

Hi @jsnaza,

If your cameras as in a different subnet, you can log into the camera's web interface and input the NVR's IP address directly.  Once that's done, you should then be able to find them as a new camera ready to adopt when you click Add Camera.

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

Same ports as Unifi line?  I just got my Protect today and need to add a camera from outside my network.

Thanks!

@UBNT-Cody I was able to adopt, it upgraded the firmware but can't stream live.  Thoughts?

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

You will need to forward 7442 for the control interface, and the new streaming port (instead of 6666 in UFV) is 7550.

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

@UBNT-Cody, I've adopted a camera in the Gen2-UCK-Plus, but what is the password for the camera?

UniFi Protect will generate a random password for the cameras during adoption, but the password isn't shown in the UI (yet).

You can pull the password from the database via SSH, like this:

root@ck-plus:~# psql -U unifi-protect
psql (9.6.10)
Type "help" for help.

unifi-protect=> SELECT "devicePassword" FROM nvrs;
    devicePassword

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

[ Edited ]

I'm looking for another solution here as the proposed hasn't worked for me.  I currently have 1 working camera that I imported when I migrated from UVC3 on a different subnet.  Any new cameras that I've added (5) identify as connected after I add the Protect server IP and reboot the camera.  (They're all on the same subnet as the camera that's currently working)

At this point, if I understand correctly, the cameras should be available for management when I choose 'add camera'..but nothing shows up.  Any other tips/things to try?

Version: 1.2.2

UI Version: 1.7.0

Cameras: all dome

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

What user name would be used here if Unifi protect has adopted a camera?

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

Username is ubnt and the password should be available in the UI settings page somewhere.

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

It's worth noting (for the sake of new readers) that the device password is now available in the web interface of UniFi Protect, under the settings menu.

Re: UniFi Protect Adding Cameras Manually

Hi all,

neiter of the above two ways seem to be working for me.

Can't find the camera password under settings in the UI.

And the password obtained in the UI does not work at the cameras, using ubnt as the username.

Any help would be appreciated.

Am on 1.7b2.

Thanks

Go into Unifi Protect, then Settings. In the General section you will see "Device Password". When you click on "Edit" it will reveal the password.
