Bug: Guest Portal causes USG to disconnect/reprovision

Not sure if this is a bug or a missing alert:

When entering restricted subnets in Guest Portal that match what's in Settings->Network causes USG to disconnect and reprovision loop.

This has happened twice. When removing the subnets, the USG remains connected.

Is this not allowed? Does guests automatically restrict other subnets?

Sorry this got missed. Thanks for the report.

Which version(s) of the controller did you experience this on? What restricted subnets are you adding, other than the default ones? Did you remove the default ones? If you haven't tried 4.6.4, I may suggest trying it. It soon is to be replaced though, by what I think will be numbered 4.6.5..

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Bug: Guest Portal causes USG to disconnect/reprovision

I'm on 4.6.3

Controller on 10.0.0.1/24

Guest on 10.0.2.1/24

Restricted 10.0.0.0/24 and allow 10.0.0.1/32 and 10.0.0.2/32 (UAP-AC)
Restricted 10.0.1.1/24 (user network)

Thanks. Still appears to be present in 4.6.4. It's not actually provisioning the updated restricted and allowed subnets (used your exact example).. Going to perform some more testing to try and narrow it down further.

Quesiton. By default, 10.0.0.0/8 is restricted. Was that causing problems for you?

Also, you shouldn't need to add the gateway and UAP-AC to allowed subnets (assuming .1 is the the gateway). Was there an issue that required you adding them to allowed?

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Bug: Guest Portal causes USG to disconnect/reprovision

I tried adding them on the second try thinking that was causing the provision error. I had removed 10.0.0.0/8 and the other defaults.

The default settings alone work fine. I'll just stick to 10.0.0.8/1 for now.

Good to know I don't have to specify the allowed gateway.

By default it will allow whatever services are required for the guests to function (DNS, DHCP, etc.). By adding a node to the allowed subnets they would have full access to whatever services are on that device (SSH, etc.). So ideally you wouldn't want your gateway or UAPs accessible to guests.

Often one may expose devices like a network printer or NAS, etc. In some cases proxy/utm, or similar devices may need to be added (usually when traffic passes through them before the gateway).

So it appears to be in restricted subnets. I can add everything up to changing restrcited subnets completely, and it's fine (as you noticed). Anyway, we'll get this corrected. Thanks for the report.

From what I can tell, this has been resolved. We might see this as early as the next release.
