Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

The license / kernel taint message is a flag that gets tripped when a non-GPL'd module gets loaded into the Linux kernel. It's normal, and mostly there for the benefit of the Linux Kernel Devs.

If you report a kernel bug and its got this flag set, you'll get told by the kernel devs to remove the offending module and see if you can reproduce the issue.

I upgraded through the custom upgrade option in the Unifi Controller software. 5min later it was back up.

Time looks good and speed tests are turning out WAY better.

Glad to hear, thanks for the report. Question, are you seeing closer to the expected WAN speeds now? Or?

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

I had no issues with the upgrade using the https procedure written in a previous post.  However, I don't see a big improvement in speed which could be (most likely) my home network, older PC etc..  The laptop did see an improvement but only by 100 or so.  Again thinking the switches in my network are to blame as they are NETGEAR GS108s.

Don't know if I mention this in a previous post, but the family went from 6Meg DSL directly to GiG-E so I am delighted to see anywhere north of 500Meg both up and down.

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

Can anyone who has updated from an earlier release of 4.3.x to 4.3.15, comment on the speeds they see now? What are you seeing, and what you should be achieving? Wired speeds only, please. Thanks in advance.

I can only test via iperf, my WAN isn't near gigabit speeds.. Man Sad

Cheers,

Mike

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

As my speedtests above show, I'm getting 940 up and down. At that speed I can't even complain, since I doubt getting a full gig is probably unlikely no matter what equipment i use. I was originally on 4.3.11 before downgrading.

Performance has been rock solid so far since upgrading.

Whoops, I missed the edit to your post with the stats. Great!! Really glad to see that.

@epigram => your upload need a little boost ... having now over 900 Mbps upload almost all the time, it's great for VM sharing and cloud synchronization ;-)

[ Edited ]

I have now tried the beta firmware (4.3.15) and I'm getting speeds around 950 Mbits in both directions with pings around 2-3 ms which is close to what I would expect when I'm connecting directly to the fiber converter. Excellent!

Sorry for the late reply, but YES within 5-10 mbps of expected.

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

Mike,

Sorry for the bump, but I recently upgrading my USG to the latest firmware (4.3.16.4879270) and I'm back to ~400Mbps down and ~150Mbps up.

Reverting back to 4.3.15.4872672 puts me back at ~920Mbps up and ~920Mbps down.

I don't know if anyone that was having the issues had tried upgrading, but I'm just giving my report.

Thanks!

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

There is this other topic

https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Routing-Switching/USG-significantly-slower-since-update-to-UniFi...

… where many of us are reporting slowdowns with the latest USG firmware, and with connecctions of just 300Mbs, which are not near the precessing limit of the USG.

I opened a support ticket and it is stil open.

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

Thanks for the heads up!

The previous firmware that fixed this issue originally is here in this thread, so I thought that it might be appropriate.

I'll check out the other thread as well

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

Seemingly reverting back to USG Firmware 4.3.15.4872672 is the best solution still:

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

Is anyone still having an issue with this?  Using controller 5.2.9 and gateway 4.3.33.4936086 we can't the the USG to perform like expected.

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

I just got a new USG today and only can hit 200mbt down on my gig connection.  The old pace modem had no issues hitting 900+

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

Been my issue from day one with USG Pro 4 and a 1000/100 connection - get 90-95 up but max I've ever got via USG is 250-350 down....been on the Dev firmware when the regression issue was "Fixed" and my download speed barely increased (to be fair I got about an extra 50 meg down). Currently on controller 5.4.11 and latest firmware but not getting the download performance, been onto the ISP who have verified 800 down via there router but drop the USG in and back to a crawl. Just interested does your ISP serve your USG via DHCP and a set vlan (mine is 10) as one thing I've noticed on all threads re USG speeds is DHCP from isp is mentioned a lot when sped is low. Have verified via SSH hardware offload is enebled

Re: Gigabit ISP, USG slowing me down

[ Edited ]

That's weird, I'm running the exact same versions (5.4.11.2 / 4.3.34.4943823) but I have no problems hitting 900+ Mbps. Did you check the offload status in the CLI?
