Issue with pi-hole: Everything is blocked

Hi,

 

Issue:

I have setup a pi-hole in my environment, but with that, everything is blocked.

 

 

Setup:

- Internet connected with a fritzbox, lan 192.168.178.1

- USG connected to Fritzbox with wan-ip 192.168.178.2, lan-ip 192.168.2.1

- pi-hole on raspberry with ip 192.168.2.5

- USG is used as DHCP.

When I use the pi-hole as DNS for the DHCP-Name-Server (USG Settings/Network) I can not open any site.

When I use 1.1.1.1 as DNS, it all works fine.

 

I also opened a discussion in the pi-hole-forum and we did some tests, but according to that, the pi-hole works fine.

One user guessed a problem with DNS Rebind Protection, but I did not find any setting for this....

 

Has anyone an idea?

found solution, there was something different from default, I had a yahm-installation.

output from route -n:

Kernel IP routing table

Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface

0.0.0.0         192.168.2.1     0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 yahmbr0

192.168.2.0     0.0.0.0         255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 yahmbr0

192.168.2.0     0.0.0.0         255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 eth0

 

So changed pi-hole to use yahmbr0 instead of eth0 and now it works

When running Pi, what does nslookup ubnt.com say on the PiHole and on the computer?

make sure your  pi-hole server having static ip including the dns server also.

 

If your network interface configuration not include the dns-nameserver specifically mentioned in the config, it will behave like what you have.

pi-hole is my dns and has static ip 192.168.2.5.

Just to be sure that I get it correctly. On my network it should look like this:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.2.5
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
dns-nameservers 192.168.2.5

Both of this IP normally is your router ip
gateway 192.168.1.1
dns-nameservers 192.168.2.5

But with pi-hole you set the dns of your clients to the internal pi-hole. The pi-hole points to other dns-servers.

So the dns is not the gateway.

What i mean is you configure it in your pi hole server like that.

The rest of your network dns should point to pi for the dns

Why are you setting the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 when you said your USG is 192.168.2.1 ?
