Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.29 now available

After initial provisioning on 4.4.29 I found that traceroutes coming from internal network isn't showing correct data:

mtr yahoo.com

1. starlight-gw 0.0% 4 1.2 1.4 1.1 2.1 0.5
2. media-router-fp2.prod1.media.vip.bf1.yahoo.com 0.0% 3 7.9 5.7 3.0 7.9 2.5

The second hop is now your final destination, which means something is messing with responses. Any ideas? Don't have time to do a deeper dive.

Impressive speed test results from a USG Pro on a gigabit symmetrical line.

I think you're on to something, 'tracert' in Windows still works just fine but 'traceroute' in Linux doesn't, the former using ICMP echo requests and the latter uses UDP packets so could be something up there.

Ok, so MTR in default mode problem apprears to be happening only on VZ FIOS WAN link, Comcast is fine. I guess it's just a coincidence.

It's not uncommon for modems to screw up certain ICMP error messages, in response to UDP traffic in particular. In that case you get only the first hop (USG responding), and the last hop (which does not get a "TTL exceeded in transit" response, rather a port unreachable). USG handles it fine either way. traceroute -I on Linux makes it use ICMP. From inside my LAN, first hops are correct just not posting them.

That's my guess as well. That message comes up when there are duplicate "shared-network-name" entries for the same subnet, and that's the only circumstance where I've heard of or seen that.

Upgraded controller on win10 from 5.8.24 to 5.8.30
USG from 4.4.22 to 4.4.29 on "remote" network with physical access to the HW.

Lost connection during upgrade, site dead.

Power cycled the USG, still dead
connected through ssh and info show 4.4.29 but no WAN IP.

Will give it some hours in case before downgrading again.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.29 now available

Hi,

Upgraded from 4.4.18 (controller 5.8.30).

After couple of hours, plenty of CPU spikes observed:

cpu.JPG

After the reboot - the heartbeat missed:

heartbeat.jpegReverted back to 4.4.18, just waiting for good times...

Cheers

Hi ,

In my case, I went for the Goo..le DNS, or something else. The defaults (ubnt) don't work...

But the results are not as expected...

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.29 now available

In my case, I have been trying couple of IPs, then I have got “black” with latency and speed.

You don’t need to restart anything.

The tip: don’t use the names, but IPs...

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.29 now available

Deciding on when to upgrade the USG firmware has been challenging.  I am still on 4.4.12 and have 280 days of uptime with zero problems or memory leaks or anything.  I am not missing any functionality in particular.  A router/gateway just has to work and be rock solid.  So I've read the forums and stayed on 4.4.12 and been very happy.

But now we're starting to see some performance and security improvements, so I feel I ought to look more closely at the firmware.  I just do not want to give up on the stability I've had.

+1

I'm running 4.4.18, and it has been up for 53 days. It would be a lot more except that I had a long power outage. I know this version had a lot of problems reported, but it has been working for me. I've been monitoring the comments on all of the updates since and so far haven't seen one that seemed like a good risk to try.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.29 now available

Been running .29 for a full day now, I am also running DPI and IPS as well and have been able to do speed tests with and without the scheduler. I am also on controller 5.8.30 for those wondering that side.

Me too. Icon Biggrin

I want stability and won't upgrade until UBNT releases another stable version. 153 days after last update and network config, running all of my network devices on a UPS so it doesn't go down during short outages.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.29 now available

Even after downgrade to 4.4.22 it is not possible to get an IP from my ISP. Right now I had to use a different router.

I have now controller on Win10 5.8.30 and USG on FW 4.4.22, any suggestions appreciated.
