Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

Once again my USG has hit 100% utilisation and has disconnected itself from the controller running on a CloudKey.

This is the sixth time since installing this firmware that this has happened. IPS is enabled, GeoIP and DPI are off.

I bought into the Unifi ecosystem at the recommendation of others because I thought it would be a better experience than my previous home network.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

Hello,

This firmware is pushed on my dashboard, is it reliable or not? The last time I updated the gateway it was no longer recognized !

I had to go back to 4.4.22

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

No issues for me. I am running IPS, seems that those running GeoIP have been running into some issues from what I have seen...

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

has worked for me without any problems.  I use IPS and GeoIP.  I have a simple home network with one USG-3P, one UAP AC-Pro, and one USW8-POE and a number of stationary hosts.  I run Unifi Controller on Ubuntu 16.04 Linux, installed from Ubiquity package repository, and I update the controller when a new version is available using standard Ubuntu packet management commands " apt update && apt upgrade", and I update firmware using unifi controller when it tells me a new version is available.   With this simple setup all has been working for months through upgrades of controller software and firmware without any problems - except where I did something stupid myself :-)  I must say that I am very happy about this setup since everything is working nicely and lots of well-designed configuration options that puts me in control of configuring all aspects of my home network including a DMZ on USG LAN2 for my web server, firewall, port forwarding, guest network, syslog to my Linux box, etc. etc.  Using the contents of the syslog contents forwarded to my linux box I can monitor all the blocked attempt to access my home network  by various port scanners etc. (6-7000 per week).  All in all I am a very happy customer so far.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

For what it's worth, I attempted to update via the Unifi Controller webpage (v5.9.29). My USG was bricked and would not boot - no status light at all. My attempts to hard reset it were to no avail. I was able to recover it by removing the USB drive and flashing it using the steps in this thread.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

If it helps.. I disabled IPS before I ran the update and it worked out just fine. I did have an odd issue with my two 48 port (non-poe) switches taking a few extra minutes in the 'updating writing' stage, but other than that, a pretty uneventful update.

Chanel 13 is a valid WiFi channel in Australia, It was selected because it is the quietest.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

So I had to revert to 4.4.34 due to increased latency and the "WAN iface eth2 transition to state active/inactive", That wan port is unpopulated for the entire time 4.4.36 has been installed.

N.B. the WAN transition messages ceased and the latency dropped as soon as v34 was installed.

Adrian

If you can point me at the options that need to be enabled/disabled I can check for you.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

Let me tell you my story.

When I installed this version for the first time, the gateway never wanted to restart.

It took a day and a night plus a morning to get to restart it. I'm not a terminal specialist, I just trusted Ubiquiti because it seemed like a good company and I pressed the update.

I only have 4 Ubiquiti devices. So I did not take risks to update the gateway?

well, yeah. So I was forced to return in 4.4.22 and the days passed without problems.

And lately I get on my dasboard update 4.4.36, I work from home on remote servers for my company.

I left some time for no problem and when the evening came I did the update.

All this worked well unlike the first time, but only one day!

The next day, my 3 Google Home (wifi) no longer worked, nor Amazon Alexa (wifi), just like Fire Stick (ethernet), the openings of the doors and shutters, the garage, the entrance gate, nothing worked .

Yet I had Facebook (hard) on my iMac.

I then restarted the wifi but it had not changed anything, also the switch Unifi, and the gateway. Nothing ! So I electrically disconnected the gateway a second time and my system is working again.

Now, I'm scared every time I touch my unifi !

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

Just came across one of these entries in my messages log file

"Jan 6 21:18:13 USG kernel: Process 4044 (ubnt-util) has crashed (parent 539 (ubnt-daemon) signal 11, code 0, addr 0000021b00000000), coredumps disabled"

Let me know if you need anything else from me, nothing seems to be impacted but i thought i would post here in an effort to maybe contribute to this community.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

My USG3P spontaneously threw the attached error while running v4.4.36.5146617. I think it was provisioning after I'd just added a static IP to a client device. The USG went offline and stayed that way. After a power cycle, it came back up like nothing had happened. I can "force" provision it without error now.

configuration commit error. Yep, I did my upgrade and had no WAN, even though "show interfaces" showed the right static IP on WAN1. Turned of GeoIP and it fixed it.

The upgrade went OK on my USG3P.

However, most (all?) updates to the USG require me to disable IPv6 on the WAN network, then re-enable it to get IPv6 working again.

Is this a known issue or does it need to be formally reported somewhere?

Does anyone else see it?

I haven't experienced that.  If you SSH into the USG and run `show interfaces`, do they not have IPv6 addresses assigned?  Are you not using Prefix Delegation?  Do you have extremely short DHCP lease times?  If it's not getting an IP, you should be able to run `renew dhcpv6  interface` instead of cycling the settings / rebooting.

`show interfaces` shows that the pppoe0 interface has an IPv6 address obtained from a router advertisement from the ISP on the ppp link.  The various LANs and VLANs that I expect to have been assigned IPv6 addresses by DHCPv6 prefix delegation don't have IPv6 addresses.  `renew dhcpv6 interface pppoe0` says "DHCPv6 client is not configured on interface pppoe0."

If I edit the WAN network to disable IPv6, edit it again to re-enable DHCPv6 with prefix delegation, and force-provision the gateway then it all starts working again as expected.

Re: [USG] Firmware v4.4.36 now available

Have also gotten a couple random disconnects since installing .36, as in tonight's sudden total loss of WAN in midst of session at almost exactly local midnight. Could still ping other PCs across WiFi link, so UAP was working. Restarting cable modem did nothing, restarting USG fixed it. Will return to 4.4.34 as soon as tonight's online work is complete. Not using GeoIP, IPS, or IDS, just DPI. Controller stats showed normal operation all night with slowly increasing memory 20% to 23%. CPU was in usual 3-5% range.

Controller 5.9.29 on Devuan Beowulf (Debian testing derived)
UAP-AC-Lite on beta release
USG3P 4.4.36.5146617
Arris DG1670A Spectrum Business 200/10 static IP
