USG Recovery Procedure

[ Edited ]

This worked for me with a 3-port USG that would not boot due to a corrupted USB Flash drive

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

Or you can just download an image from here, or manually re-build the stick. ...either way works. Some folks don't have access to spare device to pull a good stick from.

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

BranoB,

Yes, I am familiar with the EMRK. But it is not for the USG. It is for the ERL and ERPOE-5.

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

Looks like the USB stick in my USG failed. Tried making a copy using imageUSB but it fails to read the drive. Can't seem to locate an image on the internet anywhere to load onto new USB drive. Any chance someone could make an image file from a good USB using imageUSB and post it? I'd really appreciate it.

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

Here is a LINK how to manually rebuild USB stick for ERL. I don't have USG, but from what I've read the guts are the same and the procedure should work for you with USG firmware.

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

I actually tried doing that. Was able to flash onto new USB. It actually somewhat worked but since the firmware is different the device would not fully function. After the bootup process it does say its an EdgeRouter Man Happy. Just cant ping it or do anything at that point. Need the image for USG instead.

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

I think you misunderstood, I said "with USG firmware". Follow the procedure but use USG firmware, not ERL firmware.

Get the firmware from UBNT DL site here http://dl.ubnt.com/unifi/firmware/UGW3/4.3.23.4913544/upgrade.tar

Re: USG Recovery Procedure

@dimarudman

Thank you for the image file !!

The file was was a little bigger then the original 4GB USB disk within the gateway.

Nevertheless, I wrote the file to the original usb stick and started up.
Everything went well (startup, adoption...) until i tried to update.

(probably because of the corrupt ext3 partition caused by the oversized imagefile )

After that i tried a 8GB stick.
Unfortunately the gateway did not even started up.
Now i am looking for another usb stick mentioned on the forum https://community.ubnt.com/t5/EdgeMAX/EdgeMax-rescue-kit-now-you-can-reinstall-EdgeOS-from-scratch/m...
Hoping it will work.

@markhti

did you had any luck with the file?
