USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

Hey people!

I've installed a full UniFi setup at a clients and it's been running smooth for 1 month. However, in my Cloud Controller I keep seeing the two left most dials in organge, without latency or uptime.

The client is behind an ISP modem/router combo (can't be changed) but a full forward is active to the USG. The USG has a fixed interal IP and is pretty stock besides Smart Queues being active (VoIP softphones).

I think the first few days I had WAN side statistics with black dials, but I'm too sure. Things run without issues though, I'm just wondering if it's soemthing I can easily fix and get those statistics back up.

Cloud Controller on 5.5.24

USG on 4.3.60.5012138

Any advice appreciated!

Cheers!

J.

[ Edited ]

are you able to ping:
ping.ubnt.com?
Since thats where controller tries to ping to!

You could also try version 4.4.8 for the USG

No, pinging that address fails.

    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

192.168.254.1 is the ISP box, so that explains my orange dials. I'll check with the ISP if they can enable pinging external devices.

Thanks!

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

A little follow up:

I contacted the ISP and they claim no blocking is happening. The USG has a fixed IP of 192.168.254.3, it gets that from the Technicolor ISP box and it uses Google DNS servers. The router is poiting to the ISP box at 192.168.254.1

What things could I look into to get this working?

Check your Echo Sever, set it ti ping.ubtn.com and see if that changes color of your yellow dials.

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

I don't have that option in the USG 3P. What firmware is that?

The problem is that all ping requests fail from LAN to WAN.

Upgrade your controller to 5.6.x and the option will be available under USG > Config > Advanced

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

[ Edited ]

I upgraded my controller and applied the suggested setting but it didn't help.

The network layout is as follows:

internet -> (Fixed IP) Technicolor ISP Router (192.168.254.1) -> (192.168.254.3) USG 3P (192.168.1.1) -> LAN

The Technicolor is configured with a full forward towards the USG. Internet access works perfectly, port forwards for internal servers as well. The ISP claims there's no blocking going on on the Technicolor.

All internal ping requests work fine. I can ping everything in the 192.168.1.x range and also the 192.168.254.x range.

All ping requests towards internet hosts fail, on IP or on hostname with the following error:

Reply from 192.168.254.1: Destination host unreachable.

Which leads me to believe it's the Technicolor doing the blocking, am I wrong?

If its giving you the
Reply from 192.168.254.1: Destination host unreachable.
Im 99% sure it means that it cant find the ISP router, have your tried setting it in bridge modes?
Try rebooting the USG and Modem see what it does..

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

In this setup are you not double NAT'd?  If so that might explain your problem.

When you say the technicolor is set to full forward, what exactly do you mean? Bridge? DMZ? It's almost certainly related to the interface between the USG and the ISP modem/router. Does the technicolor have a firewall integrated?

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

The ISP router cannot be set in bridged mode, it's completely managed by the ISP and they only allow the "full forward". I'm not exactly sure what that means but they did say it solves double NAT issues. Manual port forwards on USG work fine.

Ping and tracert all fail at 192.168.254.1, so it must be something with the config on the Technicolor. I'll check with the ISP again and get more technical details. Thanks for the assistance!

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

Hello @jakudo,

This means it cannot reach the echo server that you set. By default ping.ubnt.com

[ Edited ]

Well, no matter what server I set (default ping.ubnt.com, google.com 8.8.8.8 and some others), it doesn't work.

However, I can ping all of them from my computer with no problem at all.

EDIT: ok, the problem is when I set also the second WAN. Than it works. When I delete it, it started to work immediately.

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

Hello @jakudo,

Is there a actual connection in wan2?

what controller version are you running?

what firmware are you running on the usg?

Re: USG uptime and latency unavailable - orange status in cloudcontroller

Tried both - with WAN2 connected and also disconnected (the cable). In both cases, it didn't work.

When I deleted WAN2 from Networks, it started to work immeditely.

I have Cloud key 0.11.4 / 5.8.24-11016

USG 4.4.22.5086045

My setup: USG, US-8-60W, UAP-AC-Lite, Cloud Key
