Upgrade USG to USG Pro

[ Edited ]

I am considering switching my USG for a USG Pro.

My main motivation is the rack mount - I want to tidy things up in my rack.....but that somehow doesn't seem enough to warrant the cost.

I have a 1Gb down /50Mb up cable connection, so I will not be able to use the features which require HW offload to be disabled, without a bandwidth penalty.

Are there other advantages to upgrading to the Pro, which I will notice on my home network with ~50 clients and several users.

I use several VLANs already, I also intend to start using the OpenVPN feature of the USG. I suspect the performance bump might be helpful.

Thanks so much!

I'm also wondering if it's worthwhile to upgrade the RAM in the USG4?

I'd probably replace the fans like many have done. Slotting in a new DIMM would be easy.

Re: Upgrade USG to USG Pro

I upgraded, slightly for the increasd performance, mainly for the rackmount . I installed Nocturna Fans (10 minute job) and while i had the top off, slotted in a spare 4GB SODIMM.
Its quiet, fast and looks good. I have a 380/20 Cable connection and with DPI and IPS on, iI still see 380/20 Man Happy
