Description

The new beta Cloud Key Gen 2 unit really is pretty slick.  I got my beta unit and moved my Cloud Key (if you watch my videos it is the Cloud Key we use in the lab) over to the new unit.  I brought on a production client with about three dozen devices and a captive portal.  Right after the migration my site lost power and I didn't have the new Cloud Key on the UPS yet.  The Gen 2 works as advertised and gracefully shut down the controller so that my software didn't get corrupted.  I'll be swapping out a lot of Gen 1 Cloud Keys soon.  Go get yours in the Beta (Early Access) Store today!  Way to go UBNT team!  Here are some side by side comparison pictures with the Cloud Key that this replaced:

@PsychoticNL- I got mine last night and set it up. Its basically for making sure everything is working alright at a glance. It is also extremely helpful for setting up. It gives you the CK's IP address and MAC so you can connect to it and find it on your network. It also has bluetooth built in for fast setup. The screen was a brilliant idea.

At this time, it doesn't do more than what pics show above.

@whowe82- Nice pics. I was going to make a post of unboxing mine and setting it up. I was surpised by how nice it was. The only issue I had was getting the box open. It was built with no tolerances where the box opens...so the suction was making it tough to get open. Do you not have a PoE switch to run it without the USB C cable?

Here are a couple pics of it running before setup. Now the 0's in second image are 23 and 6. (Pics are grainy for some reason. Pixel XL 2 took them...)

I will be putting it on the shelf where the 3P is but I need to punch down the patch panel and run a cable behind the rack.

@whowe82- I can't stop logging in to just see the speed of it. Its so nice with only 2 sites running.

Question for you though. Why do you have more than 1 cloud key? Do you have hundreds of APs and switches to run at all your sites? Did you know you could run one controller for all your devices and just set them up in different sites?

@verisariocI manage about four hundred sites for different customers.

@whowe82- First off, thats incredible. Would love to be able to say that. Also, you could centeralize all of them into a couple VM servers. You might have seen this story already but maybe not. This guy has a server running over 108 sites and gaining more all the time. One server is doing it all.

I recommend it but everyone has different situations and circumstances in networking. Edit- This lets you login to one controller and manage all sites in one browser. Might save you a lot of time.
