Using Ubiquiti in Research Projects...
Description

We've alredy got a UniFi-Video and UniFi setup here which I intend to share some details about but first, something a bit different.

Background:

The Anthropology Department at Durham University is working with the Centre for Life and other partners to conduct research into learning at interactive exhibits that builds upon prior research into social transmission and cumulative culture (i.e. the extent to which ideas and practices are shared between individuals in a population). The particular focus of these experiments will be to look for factors that influence the tendency of an individual to solve problems by copying others or by experimenting and testing their own novel solutions. This particular setup is a prototype unit for the final experiment and is being used to present a visitor activity that will be used as a tool to investigate user behaviour and how that changes with different environmental conditions.

The pod may be used for future exhibit prototype development beyond this individual research exercise. The setup allows us to capture any detectable difference in how visitors behave in different test conditions and allows us to identify whether the physical layout influences the degree to which they learn socially (or are independently creative).

Each pod will be recorded with an overview from above, the visitors have to consent to the various parties being able to use the recordings for their research, so the tablets will display different colours depending on the visitors choices which will then be displayed on the camera.

Hardware:

3x Linx 10" Windows 10 Tablets

4x UniFi-Video Cameras (UVC)

Neat setup - it's great to see projects that go above and beyond the "standard" implementations!
