G3 pro focus question

Images from this particular G3 pro seem to be blurry on the right side.  What to do?

I've attached an image.

Re: G3 pro focus question

Hi @fantonio7,

Could you please SSH into the camera and run this command (use copy + paste):

ubnt_isp_fac_cmd 06 81 01 04 19 01 FF

This will trigger a process where the camera will reset the lens which may take about 30 seconds.

If that doesn't resolve the focus, please let me know.

Re: G3 pro focus question

That caused a huge improvement.

Should I run this on all my new cameras?  ...or just the ones that "look fuzzy"?

Re: G3 pro focus question

You should only need to run the command on G3-PRO cameras that are unable to focus. Either way, it won't hurt if you decide to run it on the cameras if you want to test.

Re: G3 pro focus question

I spoke too soon.

On the particular camera where I was having the focus problem, the  command provided by Ubiquiti corrected the DAYTIME focus, but the night focus (infrared) is still bad.

Other G3-pro cameras here have much crisper images at night.

What do I do now?

Re: G3 pro focus question

Just to be precise ... my night focus problem isn't as bad ad bergqvist's!

Reminder... I ran the command, which recalibrated the focus on this G3-pro, and made daytime autofocus become sharp.  However doing so looks like it made night focus blurry.  Here's a night picture...

Look at the juniper hedge on the right side.  You can't make out the branches. Its a blur.  Edges of the car are fuzzy.

What do I do now?

Re: G3 pro focus question

I tried it a couple of more times, eachtime it has a short window where the picture is sharp, but it stays at it for 0.2 sec and then goes right to assdrunk googles.

Re: G3 pro focus question

Hi @bergqvist,

If you zoom in a bit (say to 20%), is the camera then able to focus? Ensure you have the camera set to zoom-triggered focus. If it works, please share a screenshot so we can see what you are focusing on.

Re: G3 pro focus question

Dear UBNT-Cody... I did as you asked and ran the recalibrate command.  Now I have bad focus at night.  I posted an example picture above.  You've not responded to my private messages?

What do I do now?

Re: G3 pro focus question

@fantonio7,

Can you share another snapshot of your camera during the daytime to compare to the original after running the recalibration?

Re: G3 pro focus question

Hi Fantonio,

Could you email us the support file of this camera.
If you could let us SSH into it, it helps a lot.

I'll give you my email in private.

Re: G3 pro focus question

[ Edited ]

David, I got an email saying you sent me a "private message", but I was having a little difficulty with the private message UI, so I'll reply here.

"Could you let us ssh into your machine?"

I've never done that, but I suppose its possible.  I'm using a ubiquiti USG.  I suppose this requires just a port forward, eh?  Do I just forward port 22?

"Also when did you find this problem that left side is clear but right side is blur?"

I'm not sure I agree with your assessement that left side is clear.  Looks to me like everything is blurry when in IR mode.  I was thinking of setting something on the left side to make that obvious (a sign with big block letters on it), but I haven't done that yet.

"Did it happen when you first mounted it?"

I don't know for sure.  When you install something new, you have to learn about it.  Remember, this camera had poor focus during the daytime initially.  I was disappointed with clarity, but I didn't realize that it wasn't doing its best until I installed two more Ubiquiti cameras and realized they were much sharper.  Then you guys gave me a command to recalibrate the camera and it became sharp during the day, but I noticed it was still very fuzzy at night.

For all I know its always been fuzzy.

"Or after you zoomed in/out for a while then it occurred?"

I did experiment with the zoom once when I first installed it.  However, I am quite disappointed in the ubiquiti zoom.  It doesn't zoom out far enough.  The old toshiba camera I had in this spot for the last 10 years was much more wide angle at its widest zoom, so the zoom was actually useful to select the best view.  I left the camera in its widest setting.

"Or you didn't control it for few days, then you found the problem?"

I have never controlled the camera other than when I first installed it and when I was fiddling around to try to understand why it was so darn blurry.
