UVC-Micro Infrared Broken. Can I use external infrared lighting?

I own two UVC-Micros and both cams have long since had their infrared lights go wonky. I've disabled the infrared functionality via the NVR UI but in doing so, I've also negated their ability to see and record content in the dark. With the infrared lights turned off via the NVR, could I use an external infrared light source to provide visibility to my UVC-Micro cams when appropriate?

If IR is turned off then the IR cut filter is on so external IR will not work.  I have not heard of the IR LEDs failing on the Micro, usually it is the IR cut filter that fails.

That very well could be the problem. I'm assuming the problem is the built in lights. Once camera will toggle the IR on and off all night and the other simplly sees nothing.

Easy to find out: point the cameras at each other.

'lligetfa' is right; that's how my UVC-Micro failed.

That built-in filter is very good at filtering out even

strong infrared lighting.  Dave

The camera that flip flops, can you not set it to manual on?  That should retract the IR cut filter.

The other that sees only dark, it could be a failed or stuck IR cut filter.  With the camera off, try shaking it side-to-side and see if the cut filter moves across the lens.  I have one like that.  I just shake the cut filter out of the way and then it can see in the dark.  Only thing, in daylight some colours are off.

Some folks take them apart and remove the cut filter.

All good hints; none of them worked for me.

Are there disassembly instructions around somewhere?  Dave

Re: UVC-Micro Infrared Broken. Can I use external infrared lighting?

These are great suggestions. I’ll give these a shot in the morning.

It’s a shame these cams had so many quality issues. I really loved the form factor and the little details. The ability to secure the power adapter to an outlet with a screw was pure genius. I’ve lost track of how many times my toddler has unplugged his G3-Micro because I can’t secure it to the wall.
