UVC-NVR and JDK 1.8

[ Edited ]

I am running the standard Unifi controller for network devices (not the video/cam controller) on my NVR.

Now Unifi (Controller 5.7.0 Stable ist out, that requeires JDK 1.8. NVR is stuck at JDK 1.7 since debian 7 doesnt support it until now.  Is there any plan to support JDK 1.8 on the NVR in future?

Thank you for your fast reply. So is there a update of the NVR to Debian 8 planned in the middle future? Then i would wait. Otherwise i would spend some time to look for an update to oracle Java 1.8.

Edit: I do update the Java Version by the following (just in case you are not firm with Linux or came from the Windows site of the world):

echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu trusty main" | tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/webupd8team-java.list
echo "deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu trusty main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/webupd8team-java.list
apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys EEA14886
apt-get update
apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

then you can check you java version with:

java -version

Re: UVC-NVR and JDK 1.8

Hi @HeidenLabor,

The use of 1.7 is an OS limitation as the repos provide OpenJRE and is not necessarily specific to the NVR. Updating the included Java would require upgrading existing units to Debian 8, which we can't do easily. It's possible to install Oracle Java 1.8 on the UVC-NVR, but you'll need to look for a tutorial on how to do so on the web.
