Devices connection to Unifi controller from internet

Hi.

I've setup a unifi controller on my NAS box within container station.

I can create sites, setup and see APs that are connected to my LAN and access the controller from outside of my network via the unifi web page.

My issue comes when I physically move the APs to their new physical site. They can access the net and work fine but they don't connect back to my controller.

I have opened up 8080 on my router to point to 8080 on the server's IP. I've also opened 3478UDP in the same way. According to this link: (https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/218506997-UniFi-Ports-Used) that should be all I need?

I'm using a Billion 7800DXL router so it calls port forwarding 'Virtual Servers'.

Thanks in adv.

Re: Devices connection to Unifi controller from internet

The Inform address in the Unifi device will have to point back to your external IP address for them to contact/inform the controller.

By default, they Inform to http://unifi:8080/inform. If, at the remote site, 'unifi' resolves to your external IP address, it should work.

Otherwise, use the set-inform command in a SSH session to set the Inform address.

set-inform http://external.IP.address.controller:8080/inform

Remember to do the set-inform twice. set-inform, adopt, set-inform.
Set a Frequency! Don't leave it on Auto!
Disable Uplink Connectivity Monitor
Always set-inform a Second time after Adopting

Yes, port 8080 for the Inform and 3478 for STUN.
