Error 17 on Firmware upgrade for all APs

Site has 7 Switches and 22 APs. It's running on  CK Gen2+ which has 1.0.3 installed and the Controller is 5.10.24. I recently updated the firmware on all of the switches to 4.0.42.10433 without any issues  BUT all of the APs are stuck on 4.0.21.9965. When i try to upgrade any of them by clicking  upgrade - it fails and shows error 17 in the event log. I've restarted devices, controller and CK but with the same result. Each AP has a static IP and static (correct) DNS settings. Any ideas why this is happening and how i can get them upgraded?

Re: Error 17 on Firmware upgrade for all APs

For firmware downloads to work, correct clock settings (hence NTP) is required for downloads from the Ubiquti CDN (SSL certificate validation). If you can SSH into the APs check it using the 'date' command.

You can also check out the AP logs with 'tail -f /var/log/message' and issue an update from the controller and it might give you a better clue what is failing.

Other than that you could try a manual update over SSH using the 'upgrade' command. For this, see:

Re: Error 17 on Firmware upgrade for all APs

Hello @cscs,

Are the UAPs able to ping dl.ui.com/dl.ubnt.com?

You could try to cache the firmware on the controller prior to the upgrade.

Settings > Maintenance > Firmware

Re: Error 17 on Firmware upgrade for all APs

@AmazedMender16 Able to ping the URLs and the firmware is already cached so hence thought the upgrade would be fine. Am going to try manual upgrade of one AP later today via SSH.

Re: Error 17 on Firmware upgrade for all APs

@AmazedMender16 Didn't run them due to time constraints. Instead I SSH'd into each dev and ran the manual upgrade from there using upgrade command pointed to the URL for the firmware for the device. Upgrade ran through fine and all AP's are online. Strange. What do your cmds do BTW?
