Hi MIkeD,

I still don’t understand why the last release (3.9.54.9373) was never available as an upgrade from the controller. I asked this after the last firmware was released as a stable candidate and you pointed me to this posting (https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/Notes-on-UniFi-releases-Stable-Candidate-Stable-repos-d...)  which  said I should wait a week after the stable release. But even months after the stable release, there was no option to upgrade from the controller.

Can you help me understand your process? Will this firmware, after it becomes a stable release, will be available for upgrade from the controller? One of the reasons I moved to unifi was to simplify upgrades of this nature...

Thanks,

Bob

Successful upgrade.

1. Controller version 5.9.29

2. Previous firmware 3.9.54.9373

3. Hardware: UAP-AC-LR, UAP-AC-Pro

FWIW, no change to my ongoing issue documented here:

Hello @bobmeade,

3.9.54 was available through the controller. What controller version were you on?

I was (and still am) running CONTROLLER VERSION 5.7.20.

Do you need to be on the most recent controller to upgrade the UAP/USW firmware? It sounds believable, but I never read that anywhere...

Thanks,

@bobmeade 5.9.29 https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Updates-Blog/UniFi-SDN-Controller-5-9-29-Stable-has-been-release... is highly recommended, 5.7 is no longer maintained.

Hello @bobmeade,

5.7.x is unsupported, thats why you don’t receive updates.

You can use my easy update script ( in my signature ) to upgrade your controller on Ubuntu 16.04/18.04/18.10 or Debian 8/9

OK, I will try that. Is there a help page to explain all this stuff to new users? Stable candidate vs stable release vs available in controller... and you need to have the most up-to-date controller to download the latest stable release. It is pretty simple once you understand it, but it wasn’t totally obvious to me as a new user.

@bobmeade 5.9.x will pop up an alert when your controller is out of date, and we are working towards automatic upgrades.

I only pushed 3.9.54 to 5.7.28, as that branch is no longer maintained. I did push it to several recent releases in other active branches. In general we will push to active branches, and then maybe go back a release or two using the most recent release only.

That said, as of 5.9.20 that changes a bit. These newer versions use a shared public release channel, which future branches will also use. That means that in the future even non-maintained branches should continue to receive firmware updates for managed devices (unless the structure changes).

Cheers,

Mike

Upgraded from 3.9.54.9373 and it breaks my link aggregation between my UAP-HD and my netgear managed switch. Have to remove LAG and downgrade it back to 3.9.54.9373 and re-enable link aggregation. Anyone else have the same problem?

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

Hey guys

I'm running Stable SDN controller 5.9.32 from HERE but my UAP/USW aren't showing any updates available in the controller.

I've gone to Maintainance and checked manually from there but still nothing showing up, anyone any ideas?

@UBNT-MikeD has this not been pushed to this controller version yet?

Cheers!

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I did read that and it said the stable candidates would be 'stable' a week after release, i guess there were some bugs found that delayed it.

So once 32 goes fully stable, I should see the firmwares appear available to upgrade in the controller, is that right?

Cheers

Hello @albertcheung

I suspect the issue you are facing is related to your netgear having 802.3ad Dynamic LACP disabled.   Please ensure this is enabled, and you should not have any issues with your upgrade.  Older releases had a problem where they would sometimes connect even when no LACP was negotiated. It would pass traffic but not optmially. This has been corrected.
