Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

@MooseTurd What does `info` say when you ssh to the device? Hopefully it shows the correct inform URL.

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

Hi

I am having an unstable issue with my UniFi hardware.  My networks hang from time to time.

How can I update to 4.0.9? Will this upgrade solve the issue?

1. without more details, you will receive few answers....

2. Read this on how to upgrade  https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/204910064-UniFi-Changing-the-Firmware-of-a-UniFi-Device

3. Don't know.

UniFi Switch 24 (3.9.54.9373)
UniFi AP-AC-Lite (3.9.54.9373)
UniFi AP-AC-NanoHD (3.9.54.9373)

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

Thank you for the reply. It was my first post in the community.

Please bear with my stupid questions Man Happy

I recently upgraded both my UniFi AP-AC-Pro to version 3.9.54.9373 and UniFi Security Gateway 3P to version 4.4.29.5124210.

I started to experience wifi dropping from time to time. No obvious cause from the web UI.

Restarting devices will bring back the wifi.

1. I wonder if anyone else experiences the same issue. If so, what is their solution
2. Should I upgrade to version 4.0.9 for my UAP?

Any suggestions will be helpful

@TyShawnAny chance we can get old firmware versions on those devices?

Here you go @UBNT-jeff

APs

"3.9.42.9152" to "4.0.9.9636"

Switches

3.9.54.9373" to "4.0.9.9636"

I would like to say after the updates the devices that returned had an inform of http://unifi:8080/inform.

I'm hoping to get a tech onsite tomorrow to look at the AC-LR that died during the upgrade as well.

When the device was showing as disconnected in the controller, via ssh the info command did not return anything. In hung for about 10 seconds then returned the command prompt. I ran help to make sure my connection was still live, which it was then issued reboot and it restarted and connected back to the controller. I logged back in and the info command worked properly after the reboot.

I've updated a 2nd wireless uplink ac-m and it handled the update fine with no disconnects for the past 8 hours. Maybe a one time hangup for that AP

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

[ Edited ]

The problem I reported with 4.0.8 with Amazon Echo Dots in marginal 5GHz signal strength environments on the UAP-AC-HD is also causing an issue with 4.0.9.  Had to revert to 4.0.6 again to get it working reliably again.

Original report below:

I think there may be a bandsteering issue on the UAP-AC-HD.  I have an Amazon Echo Dot that is in a location where it's marginal for 5GHz, so usually connects at 2.4GHz.  Since upgrading from 4.0.6 to 4.0.8 on the UAP-AC-HD it won't connect at all, whereas my other ones that are better positioned for a 5GHz signal are connecting at 5GHz.  Reboots on AP and Echo don't make any difference.  Revert to 4.0.6 and it connects at 2.4GHz as usual.

I do have bandsteering enabled on this SSID, but it has never caused an issue with the Amazon devices before, so this behaviour seems to be new with 4.0.8.

Controller 5.9.32.

@UBNT-jeffIs anyone researching this?  I didn't get any response in the 4.0.8 thread to this issue either.

Successful upgrade,

previous version 3.9.54.9373

controller 5.9.29

UAP-Pro, UAP-AC-LR, USW8PoE60, USW8PoE150

I'm noticing that clients connect to 5G way more than 2G, finally, without me changing any settings at all.

Do you have a rough estimee of this phenomenon (before and after upgrading to 4.0.9) ?

Before I had roughly 90% of connections to 2G, now it's up to 90% of connections to 5G on the same access point.

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

Still seeing the association failures and a high number of anomolies. Dropping back to 3.9.54.

Might need to drop back lower as 3.9.54 does not address them. Earlier versions of the FW don't show the issues, so in a choice between seeing an issue you can't fix and not seeing it at all, not seeing it at all is better for my brain.

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

@jfruehe That isn't going to fix anything though, as the new firmware versions have much better reporting mechanisms in place.

Your best bet is to try and diagnois the problem if your clients are having issues, if not then don't worry about it. But going to a way lower firmware is going to make it so you loose out on new features and fixes.

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

Yes, I get that. UBNT has not been able to address the association failures, most of the time we hear "don't worry about those".

This is a case of having to choose between seeing it and not being able to fix it or not seeing it but having it broken. I just don't understand why they formatted the dashboard to call out things that either don't matter or can't be fixed. The board has a bunch of threads from when 3.9.54 came out and the answers have been underwhelming.

@jfruehe You can remove that Widget from the Dashboard in you don't want to see it.

I have noticed that usually IOT devices cause those, and are because they'll be connecting to a farther away access point (fringe) or something.

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

@jfruehe Those are failures on a specific AP, and that number is relatively low, so it could have been as simple as the phone connecting to a UAP, asking for an IP, and then leaving for another UAP based on roaming logic (which we'd like to filter out at some point). But you are right, the wording is a little harsh on the dashboard.

@UBNT-jeff That makes sense on the associating failures. Thanks for the info. Do you feel that this will make it to stable?

While you may view those as low numbers, those are for today only. I have had numbers in the thousands recently. One of the reasond to try 4.0.9 was that we assumed UBNT was actively looking into the situation and I assumed that things would be better.

Retries and dropped packets seem to be lower on 3.9.19, where I had been.

Actually, this is on the default "WiFi Metrics" dashboard, it is not editable.

Re: [FIRMWARE] 4.0.9.9636 for UAP/USW has been released | Stable Candidate

@joshzone1990 Yes, the only known issues are some DFS false positives for gen3 models, and default re-enabling POE passthrough port for UAP-IW-HD, but everything else is looking good.
