Google+ deprecation

Hi all,

As Google have decided to deprecate Google+ (Shutting down on March 7th 2019) this will leave us unable to authenticate our guest WiFi users.

Are Ubiquiti going to roll out support for the new API any time soon?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Google+ deprecation

Just for reference:
https://developers.google.com/+/api-shutdown
https://developers.google.com/identity/sign-in/web/quick-migration-guide

I cannot see if this change is only needed on the controller (still would require an upgraded version) or if changes to the Google Console is also required.

Re: Google+ deprecation

It look like this have started to be an issue now.

Our google authentication doesn't work anymore.

It doesn't look there is an update for this yet. But hope that they will create a fix for this really soon.

This is starting to cause us problems as well.  Anything from UBNT?

Re: Google+ deprecation

I have just received a message from UBNT, that they are working a solution to use the normal google API.

Unfortunally they don't have an ETA for a version with the fix.

Re: Google+ deprecation

It would be good if someone from Ubnt could post on this thread to that effect.

This really is quite a big deal, so hearing nothing from them on this is worrying.

Re: Google+ deprecation

Any news here? I just tried setting up this authentication with normal Google, it starts fine, then ends in a blank screen - and the portal starts anew.

Re: Google+ deprecation

I'll quick-update this for myself;

I got it working with the normal Google Sign-In tonight after some tinkering.

Set up here; https://console.developers.google.com/

Running 5.10.17.

Only thing is I struggle getting clients authorized if they're NOT using Google Chrome, which shouldn't be a requirement. The process starts as normal, but after I've entered all my info it just times out and restarts the process (tells me it can't reach https://accounts.google.no (pre-authorized host is correct)).

But, at least it works with Chrome, so it's alright for my use case.

Re: Google+ deprecation

PLEASE can someone from Ubnt address this?  This is very last minute and I will cause a lot of people a lot of problems if Ubnt just allow this to lapse.

Re: Google+ deprecation

[ Edited ]

As of a few weeks ago, with the deprecation of Google+ in mind, I tested and instead of using Google+ API (which I did not enable), I used the Google People API and it worked just fine. I think a number of their APIs will work as an alternative. You still use Google API Manager as shown in this article regardless: https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000871247-UniFi-Social-Media-Guest-Authentication

The process was only slightly different than in this article, for anyone who this is not working for, can you follow this article but with the following article as a first step instead of the Google+ directions and then let me know if it works thereafter?

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the reply.  I will test this as soon as I can and update this thread.

Re: Google+ deprecation

Where can the API endpoint be changed? After enabling people API and ensuring relevant clientID and secret are configured in the controller all queries are still going out to plus.googleapis.com. How/where can the service endpoint be changed to people.googleapis.com?
