How do you physically open the UAP-AC-PRO?

Just as the subject says, how do you physically open the UAP-AC-PRO? I thought there were three screws with sickers over them (where the purple arrows are) but closer examination says nope.

Would like to open it without making a mess of it if possible.

Thanks!

I think I read somewhere that they are clipped together.

Older ones were screwed IIRC.

I must admit I'm curious to see the result of an opened AP

That's my desk at work, I have an AK-47 one on my other desk, AR-15 on the other. If you have any requests I have another desk that needs one: http://selectshootingsupplies.com/collections/tek-mat

Sweet, thanks! The UAP-AC-PRO has silicone around the edges (but not the UAP-AC-LR or UAP-AC-Lite) so it was a little tricky to get it apart but I finally did (using the roller tool in the first pic). Exactly as you said, just clips, no screws!

Sorry for the quality of the pics, took them with my phone Man Sad

I bought my kit from here: http://www.banggood.com/JAKEMY-JM-i82-7in1-Professional-Screwdriver-Set-Spudger-Prying-Opening-Tool-...

Used it on a ton of laptops, tablets, etc. Works great for stuff clipped or glued together Man Happy

The FCC does have internal photos of the unit as well.

From my measurments it's part# MM8430-2610 (3.0mm x 3.0mm)

Not clear if a MS156 pigtail will fit it Man Sad http://www.ebay.com/itm/RP-SMA-female-jack-to-MS156-right-RF-Pigtail-Jumper-RG174-cable-20cm-8-NEW-/...

Re: How do you physically open the UAP-AC-PRO?

Nice patch antenna you have there! Man Happy However, I'd recommend disconnecting those on-board antennas before connecting the external ones, because if you run them together, the impedance matching/SWR is gonna be all over the place (assuming your antennas present ~50 ohm match at target frequency). The pictures show a small cap between each test connector and the actual on-board antenna (if I read correctly - C525, C520, can't see the third one), desoldering those should do the trick.

If I read the datasheets for those antenna jacks correctly, when you plug the antenna connector into them it disconnects the onboard antenna's automatically!! Super nice Man Happy

That would, naturally, make it much easier. Man Happy

Interesting project. What are your goals with this mod?

Another thought - the on-board antennas must be dual-band (guessing by their fancy look and the fact that there are only three of them), so you're gonna get both bands from all three test jacks. Your antennas look like 5 gig to me (but I know, looks can be deceiving Man Happy), so how are you gonna deal with this?

Ubiquiti doesn't sell a dual band wireless AC outdoor directional access point (that's not airmax only) so I had to "build" one.

My hope is that it can provide internet to devices (cell phones, etc.) at the park across the street:

The specs for the antenna say it's dual band: www.lairdtech.com/products/s24517pt

In that case it's gonna be OK. Couldn't tell from the pic.

Thanks for the info. I'm always curious when I see an interesting DIY project/mod. Man Happy Good luck with the trees though, they tend to be a pain in the butt.

Re: How do you physically open the UAP-AC-PRO?

I'd be interested to see how this goes too.

Don't forget no matter how powerful the AP WiFi transmit/receive is, nothing in the world will help you if the device on the other end has a weak transmitter.
