Interference?

I have a Unifi AP-AC-Pro in an area of offices that giving poor connectivity compared to the others on the site. I've noticed I get high interference escpecially when I have a certain laptop connected to it (A Dell 9550). I'm tying to figure out what it means and how to resolve.

The attached shows the detail. The laptop had 6.5 mbps connected and the AP is literally outside the room. It connects better to the AP in a room above. As soon as I get the laptop to reconnect the interference drops.

Is it the AP or the laptop?

Re: Interference?

Hello @jason2234,

I recommend making the following changes..

Upgrade the controller version to the latest one.

5.6.37 > 5.6.40 > 5.8.30 > 5.9.29 > 5.10.19

Follow the upgrade path below for the UniFi Devices.

3.9.27 > 3.9.54 > 4.0.21 ( 4.0.15 for the UAP-Outdoor+ )

Disable the Uplink Connectivity Monitor

Settings > Site > Uplink Connectivity Monitor

I also recommend doing the RF scans and setting static channels on the UAPs.

Devices > UAP > Config > Radios

2.4 GHz

Channel width: HT20

Chanel: 1/6/11 | Choose one of these channels, a RF scan will help you choose the most clean one.

Transmit Power: Low ( Medium )

5GHz

Channel width: VHT40 | Optional VHT80/VHT160 might decrease wireless stability

Chanel: 36/44 | Optional (149/157) Choose one of these channels, a RF scan will help you choose the most clean one. Avoid using DFS Channels

Transmit Power: Medium ( High )

Glenn R.

Re: Interference?

Hello @jason2234,

Try switching channels?

What is the output of an RF Scan?

Could you post your system config?

Settings > Maintenance > Support Info > Show System Config

Re: Interference?

system config is attached. SLT AP, Z102 and Z203 are in above each other but not directly just in the room above.

I can't do an RF scan until after 11:30am as it will discrupt a meeting of people I don't want to disrupt Man Happy

Whats is the RF scan showing?

Would you recommend I change channels manually or is there an automatic change that can happen in line with the other devices it picks up?

Re: Interference?

Thanks Glen, I'll get started.

Will switching the uplick connectivity Monitor off cause all AP to restart or drop clients? I need to figure out if it can be done during the day or if i need to wait for the evening

Re: Interference?

Hello @jason2234,

All the changes above will provision the UAPs and drop the clients for a few seconds.

Re: Interference?

Thanks Glen I will wait for the right time. I've done the console updates just working on the APs now. Do i need to upgrade each AP per firmware update? I have 56 Man Happy

Can you have a quick look at an RF scan attached to see if i'm reading them right. from this I would set the 2g as 10 and the 5g as 110 as they both have the highest readings?

Re: Interference?

Sorry you said to stick to 36/44 and 1/6/11

So I'd pick 44 5g and 6 2g?

Re: Interference?

Hello @jason2234,

Each UAP will have a different RF scan output, you can select multiple UAPs at the time.

Devices > APS ( top left ) > 3 dots ( top right ) > Select multiple devices ( enable group config )

Re: Interference?

Glen as i've updated the AP i have a few that are now showing as FDX100. They're going back to the same switch as other APs that are showing 1gb.

I've not disabled the uplink option yet as i've not finished the updates due to a few annoying APs being stuck in a loop with each other saying they won't update until i've updated the downloinked AP! i'm sorting it though only 4 left
