New installation with nanoHD APs and clients dropping very often

I have a new installation with a USG, 2 -8 150W switches and 3 nano HD APs.

When there is a load of about 40 or less clients on the APs then the clients drop about every 30 to 45 seconds and then reconnect. The settings I have are:

2 SSIDs on all APs

2.4G is set to low and 5G is set to medium on all APs

Band steering to 5G is set on all APs

2.4G is set to channels 1,6,11

5G is set to channels VHT40, 36,44,149

I also unchecked the "Enable connectivity monitor and wireless uplink" checkbox.

I am running the latest software.

Are there any ideas on what else to check? I assume that support will ask for some logs regarding this issue.

I have heard that the nanoHDs have some issues but for a new installation I thought I would try the newer devices but I may need to semd these back and get the regular HDs.

@forwheeler

The nanoHD band steering issue should be fixed in beta firmware 4.0.3.9493

Hello @forwheeler,

You can custom upgrade thru the UI.

Devices > UAP > Config > Manage Device > Custom Upgrade

If it a connectivity issue, l always start with monitor mode PCAP. If you want to know what happened during those 30-45 seconds, we need data to analyse. It is like using Wireshark on the client PC when you troubleshoot server RST session termination issue or similar (just a simple example).

Don`t blame the device as it`s always doing what you have asked it to do, this is not always the same as what you want.

Re: New installation with nanoHD APs and clients dropping very often

Hello @forwheeler,

Could you post your system config?

Settings > Maintenance > Support Info > Show System Config

Have you tried to disable the Advanced Features such as Band Steering?

Please give BETA firmware a shot on your UAP NanoHDs ( follow this article to signup )

Regards,
Glenn R.

Ok, should I download win10pcap since I don't have linux or is there another recommendation?

Re: New installation with nanoHD APs and clients dropping very often

I haven't tried to disable band steering nor have I tried beta firmware. I can try to disable the band steering to see if that makes any difference. I can also try to use beta firmware but I would assume that the most reliable firmware would already be released.

I have wireshark installed so I assume I should capture the wireless network as apposed to the wired.

I removed the band steering and there are no obvious failures yet. I had 64 clients on one AP and didn't notice any drops. Apparently the band steering to 5G is not ready for prime time on the nanos.
