No DHCP for Wireless Clients

On an established Unifi AP network with 4 access points, a problem just occured where all wireless clients are not receiving a DHCP address, and therefore no internet access.  All wired clients are working fine.  Have restarted all AP's.  DHCP is provided by MIcrosoft SBS.  If I set a wireless client to a static IP address, I still cannot access the internet or ping the wireless client from a wired client.  All four AP's are exhibiting the same behavior.  Thanks for any help.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

Our outside IT vendor (who sells and installs Ubiquiti products) came in yesterday and tried a few things.  He could not find any real issues.  We installed the DHCP server on anither VM, which didn't help.  So we purchased and installed four new UAP-AC-LR access points, which solved the issue.  So we really never found the issue, but it is resolved.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

VLANs tagged correctly?

Thanks,

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

Everything was working fine until about an hour ago.  As far as I know, no changes on SBS server or firewall.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

I have to ask... due to the screenshot, what controller/firmware version are you running?

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

OK, now on 5.6.40 and AP's are 3.9.54.9373.

Wireless clients are still not receiving DHCP address however.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

Does the controller show the APs as connected? It sounds like they aren't on the network.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

Yes.  I can connect to them.  I actually just upgraded the firmware in all of them.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

When you connect wirelessly with a static IP, how far can you ping/tracert through? Ping all the APs? Ping the controller? Default gateway? Ping internet via IP address (not FQDN to eliminate DNS)?

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

I found two devices which can connect DHCP (see connection list) wirelessly with no problem.  After upgrading firmware in AP's, I was able to set a laptop and an iPhone to a static IP address and regain full connectivity.  But if I change them back to DHCP, connectivity is lost.

Hello @triplegee,

Welcome to the community!

Tried restarting the DHCP server?

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

@triplegeeThanks for the picture, but can you run the tests I mentioned above, using a static IP?

@RobbieH Sorry -forgot to put that in.  On static IP, I can ping any internal and external address.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

That's really odd. You can ping the DHCP server too, right? I can only imagine this is a DHCP server problem or something blocking access to the DHCP server.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

@RobbieH yes, I can ping the DHCP server.  Weird, huh?  And a couple of wireless devices are working fine.  But several desktops, laptops and printers on DHCP are not.  Also, not a single mobile device will connect - Apple or Google phone.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

You know what, I've seen some issues reported with Android in general and iOS 12 on Apple. I don't see those issues on my network, but some others have reported success from changing their DTIM period to 5.

Re: No DHCP for Wireless Clients

@RobbieH I'll definitely give that a try, but we have Windows devices that won't pull an address either.
