Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@andrewhotlab can you also please confirm the breakdown of AP's?  Specifically:

Models being used as a Base Station (Wired AP)

Models being used as a Mesh AP (Wirelessly connected AP)

Also, do you have any open networks, or any networks with fast roaming enabled?

On version 5.6.20, I'm pretty sure youre AP's are using Mesh V2.  Upgradeing to 5.7.x, 5.8.x, or 5.9.x would transition to Mesh V3.  To confirm this, you can SSH in to an AP and run iwpriv 2>&1 | grpe vwire and paste the result here in the forum thread.  If the vwire SSID contains numbers that look like the MAC address of the AP, you're using V2.

So it's likely that the issues you're seeing are related to the transition between V2 and V3. We have, admittedly, had some customers stumble a little bit when trying to transition.

Can you also please give me a breakdown of the models you have in use.  Specifically:

Models being used as a Base Station (Wired AP)

Models being used as a Mesh AP (Wirelessly connected AP)

Hi @UBNT-BenBuckley,

I think there is something wrong with the command iwpriv 2>&1 | grpe vwire. It turns out the result is: -sh: grpe not found.

The models I'm using for wireless uplink in the hotel are: Unifi AP and Unifi LR only. I have some AP models conected to AP models and some AP models connected to AP-LR models. In other words, Wired AP (Unifi AP or AP-LR) and Wirelessly connected AP (Unifi AP).

I'm sending some pics attached.

FYI I'm using 5.5.20 controller version.

Regards,

Sandrigo.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

Use "grep" instead of "grpe", as that was obviously a typo.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@UBNT-BenBuckley thank you. The client disconnection problem happens when we use UAP as Mesh AP, connected both to other UAP and UAP-AC-LR, working as base stations. Issues started when we upgraded UAP's firmware from 3.9.21.8191 to 3.9.27.8537, but actually we upgraded them just after updating the controller from 5.6.30 to 5.7.23.

No open neither fast roaming network configured.

Hi @UBNT-BenBuckley,

Follow the result:

TorreA25-Fundo-BZ.v3.9.42# iwpriv 2>&1 | grep vwire
                vwire                         (0180) : set 1 int & get 0
                get_vwire                  (0180) : set 0 & get 1 int
                vwire                         (0180) : set 1 int & get 0
               get_vwire                   (0180) : set 0 & get 1 int
               vwire                          (0180) : set 1 int & get 0

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@seven2018 I apologize.  That's the incorect command.  It should be

iwconfig 2>&1 | grep vwire

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@andrewhotlab You're symptoms look like they fit with having issues transitioning to MeshV3 as well.  Let me ask the team about this and I'll get back to you.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@seven2018 that confirms your AP's are still on MeshV2.

Your issues sound like they are rooted in smoothly upgrading from V2 to V3.  Still touching bases witht the team, I will reply back when I have a recommendation.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@andrewhotlab after thinking about your case some more, client disconnects can be  symptom of a few different things, and I don't have enough info to even guess which one is going on.

Did you downgrade your AP's to 3.9.21 to get them running stable again, or are they still in the bad state?

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@seven2018 I haven't been able to find any known issues that match with what you're experiencing.  The best step I can think of is for you to try upgrading a couple of AP's again and see if the issue comes back.  That is to say, see if your issue is repeatable.

If you can provide me with remote access, I can look at the system during the upgrade to see if I can spot the issue.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

After downgrading UAP models connected via wireless uplinks to 3.9.21, all of them started to behave back OK. Then I upgraded one of them to 3.9.27 and it started to disconnect its clients again, thus I’m pretty confident the cause is in something changed between these two releases.

Andrew,

What controller version are you using at this moment? Do you think this problem is related with the firmware version and not the controller?
I haven't tested the most recent controller with this version (3.9.21) you mentioned. In my tests the problem was relatead with the controller version from Mesh V2 to V3.

Hi @UBNT-BenBuckley,

I have 140 APs in my controller and to do this test I have to upgrade the controller version, where I think the problem is. This is going to bring me a lot of headache again in case it doesn't work out. There is no way I can test it in my scenario at this moment.

Couldn't you simulate this problem at lab using the version of the controller and firmware I mentioned?

Sandrigo.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@seven2018 We have simulated your case and don't have any issues.  There must be something in your environment/configuration that is causing the error to happen.

Will you send me a DM with your controller backup?  I will set up some equipment and configure it with your controller settings, then upgrade, and see if I can reproduce.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

I can confirm the problem with firmware 3.9.27 and both controller’s versions 5.7.23 and 5.8.24 so far. My impression is that it’s more likely a firmware-related issue.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@andrewhotlab are you willing/have you tried anything newer?  Like 3.9.46?  There have been various stability fixes that might help out here.

Otherwise, are you wiling and able to get me access to the controller when the issue is happening?  That would help speed up debug tremendously.

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

[ Edited ]

@UBNT-BenBuckley It's ok for me to upgrade to a newer version, but my controller suggests I can update my UAP models only to firmware 3.9.27.8537 (see attached screenshot). Please note that I'm talking about UAP models (not UAP-v2).

Re: Problems with Wireless Uplink users

@andrewhotlab the FW version suggested by the controller depends on the controller version.  Newer FW are pushed by controllers on the beta version.

You can upgrade to 3.9.46 by finding the release post in the forum, copying the firmware URL, and using Custom Upgrade functionality in the controller AP settings
