Sporadic outages from APs

Hello,

I have the problem that my APs seems to reboot over the day.

So I enabled a syslog server and Debugging for the site.

In the event log of UniFi Controll I only see the following kind of messages:

"tdnet01-eg was restarted (2h 14m connected, 6 clients)"

on my switch (I have cisco, different modells) I got only the following message:

%STP-W-PORTSTATUS
gi1: STP status Forwarding, aggregated (1)

In the Syslog server, I found the following messages:

My APs are all the same:

MAC Address24:a4:3c:10:39:2c
ModelUniFi AP-AC
Version3.8.3.6587

The outage happens with every AP, independent from the used switch and sporadic. 5-10 times a day.
Do you have any suggestion how to isolate the issue or, much better, do you have a solution for that issue?

Thanks in advanced

Re: Sporadic outages from APs

Hi there,

I'm having the same issues witch the square UAP-AC.. (got 4 of them in one site)

Currently working on FW 3.8.3 (also had the problem with 3.7.58) with controller version 5.4.16

Already tried downgrading the AP's and adjusting radio power, but didn't help.

To fix the problem for now I had to replace one UAP-AC for a UAP-PRO and everything is working fine.. (at least on the UAP-PRO, issue is still there on the other UAP-AC's)  looks like a problem with the UAP-AC?

Got the same log output as Ryder.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Sporadic outages from APs

Hello koenvanreeuwijk,

(sorry, but this is a very complicated nameOut)

Thanks for the feedback. This sounds not good. The issue seams to get stronger in the last month. So it seems to be an issue with this kind of AP and the release. On older release I did not have the issue.

I also have three of the same APs and all have the problem. So is not a hardware damage.

And the issue have something to do with the amount of Wifi clients. The APs reboot much more when there are many clients connected (I mean something between 4 to 7). I have one AP which has only sometimes one or two clients connect he boots very less.

It would be nice if one person of Ubiquiti is making a statement to that issue.

ciao

I'm sorry but that's my name haha!

I can't realy acknowledge if the issue is getting stronger or not, however it looks like the issue issn't there if only one client is connected. But if it's getting up to 3+ then the issue is there again.

I could try the new controller version, but it won't be the solution i suppose.

Would be nice if someone of Ubiquiti could response.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Sporadic outages from APs

Hello koen,

(ah, much easier!)

that coincides with my experiences. If I have only one WLAN client, everything works fine. Sometimes I have about 5 or 6 clients on one AP, working is not possible anymore. The AP reboots, reboots and so on.

No upgrading did not helped, I use the newest firmware for AP and newest controler. The same problem.

This is unlikely the number of clients, more one specific client that is causing trouble. It is not easy to isolate it, but I think that is what you should try to do.

With regard to the square APs: Support has factually ended, UBNT has given them up, so you are on your own.

Re: Sporadic outages from APs

No this is not the right assumption for my situation, because I also monitored my APs over the controler and one AP reboot without any connection to a WLAN client.

So I think the issue is independent from the type of WLAN clients. Only if there are many (means more than five) the likelihood that the AP reboots is higher.

But, nevertheless, many thanks for the information.

Re: Sporadic outages from APs

Then check the power supply, the stability of the power, and the AP's heat.

Anyway, the offending client could also be trying to connect, or the AP crashes before a log entry is produced. You would need to SSH into the AP to get more timely information, but even then... the controller is always some 10-30 seconds behind.

Re: Sporadic outages from APs

Wow we are having exactly the same issue, it does feel load related. About 16 clients but when doing lots of downloading, the square APs keep crashing. Several times a day.

I had not realized support for them was ended and we should move on, that is good to know, any recommendations for what to use instead? We have a relatively small workspace but many developers, so need something that handles dense layout well.

And yes, we are on the latelst firmware as of today which is 5.5.19 running the controller on a mac and the APs

And Gen2 (or Gen3 aka HD) device will do. A direct replacement would be the AC-Pro with again 3x3 MIMO and two Ethernet ports, plus some extra CPU power by hardware offloading the 5 GHz traffic. The AC-Lite is good in places with many APs near each other, the LR great if range matters and weak clients need to be supported.

EDIT: You could try to reduce the power settings of the UAP-AC for one or both radios a bit, and see if that helps.

It does not work, already tried it.... Did an RMA for one AP lets see if a new one helps Man Wink
