Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Unifi 4.6.6 very slow start up

Fresh install of Unifi 4.6.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 x64

Hosted on Digital Ocean.

Whenever I reboot Ubuntu using command line, I can log back in using SSH in less than a minute. Ubuntu boots fast.

However, I cannot access the Unifi Controller Web login page until about 20 minutes later.

I have 1 site on this controller. I don't think it took 4.6.3 more than 5 minutes to present the login page after Ubuntu reboots.

Should it be taking 20 to 30 minutes for the login page to show up?

How can I begin troubleshooting the slow start up?

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Unifi 4.6.6 very slow start up

100% Fixed

Here is what I learned.

If you install unifi on a headless VPS such as Digitalocean or AWS you could experience a long Unifi startup time.

It's because a VPS doesn't experience enough entropy during it's start up and it halts the generation of the key, thus the interface on 8443 doesn't load. Eventually (in my case 20 minutes), :8443 loads.

After I performed:

sudo apt-get install haveged

My long start up times vanished and Unifi starts quickly.

More information on the matter.

My recommendation to Ubiquiti is to install haveged along with the controller.

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Unifi 4.6.6 very slow start up

thanks @Ambul for the tips. I learnt a new word plus a linux process I wasn't aware of happening, kind of embarrassed as I've being playing with *unix for some time now. this kind of answers are the best, much appreciated compared to the "i got it fixed thx" replies Man Happy

You're not alone @attila: 4.7.6 reporting in...

I have to admit @Ambul, you solved my problem too. And I didn't know SSD hosting didn't have enough entropy either. Really awesome headsup man... Kudo's to you and hats off.

This topic is not being indexed properly on Google by the way. I think there are lots of people in search for your fix !

Agreed, haveged should be a required dependency. Can we signal this topic to the developers?

Re: Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Unifi 4.6.6 very slow start up

I'd keep it as a suggested or optional package.

My server at home has RDRAND passthrough and such for virtual machines, so not needed.
