UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hi everyone,

I having the following issue.

At times my CK is unreachable, sometimes with just powering it off for a couple of minutes it was enough. But now I cannot connect.

The led is Blue, but everytime that I want to connect through browser i am gettig the image that I Attached here.

I tried by SSH but the same, I get a refusal message.

Has anyone had this issue or know how to solve it? (I've tried hard reset three time in the last month)

Thanks in advance

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hello @Fabro83,

Could be the database running full, could you try running this script?

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hello @Fabro83,

Are you able to ping the UCK?

Logs would help here. But if you can't login to the UCK, these will get hard to get.

If you have backups just factory reset the UCK, did the UCK experienced a random power loss?

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hi Amazed,

I'm able to ping the UCK, and when I try to reach it I get the image above.
Now I've just installed the Unifi Conroller Software on my Laptop and Upload a Backup, and thankfullyI'm able to see my entire network.
But I still don't know why the UCK isn't working properly....

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Sounds like my last post when the mongodb got near 2GB and suddenly refused to restart. Check the logfile at /usr/lib/unifi/logs/server.log to confirm.

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hi Amazed,

So, I run the script, but I'm not quite sure what it did, I understand that the script pruned the database.

Then I had to do a hard reset, next I upload the latest backup (the one that I did after running the script) and now it seems is working fine.

Thanks again!

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hello @Fabro83,

Awesome!

You might want to run the script once in a month.

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

In my case, the solution from the script did not help.
I also noticed that the database listens on port 27017 and not 27117. Switching the port to 27117 in config configates failure to start the database service.
What is the correct port? How can I fix CloudKey?

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hello @sztefek,

Port 27117/tcp is used for the database.

Do you have any autobackups of your controller?

Some more info:

If I restart the unifi service right now, these are the only new entries in /usr/lib/unifi/logs/server.log:

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Looks like my previous post got deleted when I edited it slightly. To bad. To reiterate:

Same problem. Have only (auto)backups from previous version, 5.8.30. Upgraded to 5.9.29 a few days ago, and it stopped working this afternoon.

Is it possible to use the backup from the previous version for a restore?

If not, will I have to do a manual downgrade of the controller and restore, and then (perhaps) upgrade again?

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Hello @perw07,

Welcome to the community!

Try to repair the DB, if that doesn’t work you can reinstall UniFi 5.8.30 import the back and afterwards upgrade again.

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

Solved!

Found another thread with a reference to "Repairing Database Issues on the UniFi Controller". That got the system up and running again.

Of course I don't know what went missing, I hope nothing important.

Re: UniFi Controller is starting up...

I ran into the same problem where my UCK hang while "starting up", I'm using the cloud key appliance V1; solved it by reset and restore a previous config; important is to NOT follow the wizzard at startup, but to first setup the cloud key from scratch as a new device and NOT connect it to ubnet cloud initially, then you can restore through the GUI and everything works fine again. The database is obviously only purged if you do a reset from scratch and not if you run a restore first.

I'm assuming to origin was a database error while hitting a 328MB limit. I ignored an accoring alarm for a while (it was just before vacation time) assuming it will just store no further data. I screwed down my data retention policy after the reset/restore to avoid the next crash and I found the size of my backup is now reduced from 25-26MB to 871KB. As I would like to get hands on historical data, it would be great to have a description on which data are stored in the DB. It would be great someone from the ubnt folks could provide information on

- which data are stored in the DB in detail?

- is there a change with cloud key V2 on that?

I saw there is a V2 in the pipe but saw no infomation whether it is still using a 32bit MongoDB (this would mean no change obviously)
