Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

Oh I thought you meant a clean Ubuntu install, no special forks or something out of the ordinary. .

Well it worked fine nevertheless to use the backup and restore everything after the install.

Only alteration was mongodb* in the purge, you will run into some errors but it worked fine in the removal process. Could be good having a snapshot though before you start Man Happy

Thanks alot for the help!!

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

Your scripts makes it easy and quick. Finding the right stuff to install was hard when ur a beginner in Linux.

It it makes deployment to vms quick and easy after installing new hyperv machines for the controllers at small deployment sites

thanks for your great script and time

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

I am having a nightmare here...

I have been running unifi for a few years, and it has generally been OK, but since trying to move to 18.04.1 I just can't get it working.

Attempt number one was to use do-release-upgrade from 16.04 and that didn't end well.

I then cleared off all the mondo and unifi components and tried to reinstall them, not much better.

Finally I built a brand new VM off the 18.04.1 media, enabled ssh, updated and then tried to run your script, and I'm back where I started.

From what I can gather the mongod process isn't even starting:

root@wireless:~# ps -fe |grep -i mongo
root 2143 1190 0 15:33 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --color=auto -i mongo
root@wireless:~#

I know that with previous version there would have been a mongo log in the unifi directory, but I can't see any.

To be honest, this is exactly where I was before I found your script, but I'm hoping that you may have seen/fixed it before.

mongodb-org 3.4.16 is showing as installed, but the systemctl service is disabled. I think this is correct as I'm pretty sure unifi starts the process manually itself rather than relying on the service, but maybe I'm wrong.

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

Hello @dhmilton,

Could you run all these conmands to uninstall everything? (This will uninstall everything, make sure you have backups of your controller)

sudo apt -f install -y
sudo service mongod stop sudo apt purge mongodb-org* sudo rm -r /var/log/mongodb sudo rm -r /var/lib/mongodb sudo apt autoremove sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongod*.list sudo apt purge unifi -y sudo apt purge oracle-java* -y sudo apt autoremove

After these commands run my scripts.

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

The result is exactly the same.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with 18.04.1 and I might be better off rebuilding on 16.04 instead...

It looks to me like the mongod process isn't being called at all.

I have tried enabling the mongod service and starting it, and then stopping and starting the unifi service, but that made no difference. The /var/log/mongodb/mongod.log shows no connection attempts.

Do we know when ubnt are going to aupport Mongodb 4+?

Kudo's to Glenn.  I had my AWS instance implode on me and had to spin up another in a hurry, but for some reason when i was done the unifi service would not start.  I reached out to Glenn, he responded right away and remoted into my machine and had it running in less than 5 minutes.  Thank you Glenn, you really saved my bacon!!!

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

Glenn very kindly remoted in and had a look for me, but it just wasn't going to work.

I rebuilt the controller using the 16.04 media, upgraded to 16.04.5 and then his script worked perfectly.

I think I'll wait until the controller officially supports MongoDB 4.x before I upgrade again.

Thanks a million for all the help.

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

Awesome script!  I've been trying to get unifi to run on a virtual 18.0.4.1 (hyper-v) server with no luck.  Running the script on a clean install got 5.8 up right away.  I am having an issue upgrading to 5.9.24 however.  I run dpkg -i unifi_sysvinit_all.deb after downloading the latest version and it just times out during the install.  Any thoughts?  This is the output:

root@unifi:~# dpkg -i unifi_sysvinit_all.deb

Hi!

After succeeding with the scripts (Thanks again @AmazedMender16) I've run into an issue where I'm not able to backup anymore.. neither with autobackup nor manually initiating a backup...
Anyone have a clue, what could be the issue??
Thanks..

Re: UniFi Installation Scripts | UniFi Easy Update Scripts | Works on Ubuntu 18.04 and 16.04

Hello @Harelsh,

The command to view files is: cat /directiry/file

View this article on where you can find the logs.

You may want to copy the logs onto your desktop, you could use FileZilla and a SFTP connection for example.
