WLAN Bandwidth slower over SSID with VLAN applied?

I discovered that I'm only getting about 60% bandwidth over a WLAN with VLAN applied on my USG, last night.

I have 2 SSIDs on the same AP, one of which has a VLAN applied.

On the primary SSID, I get the full bandwith that my ISP provides (21'ish down, 1.7'ish up).  On the SSID that has the VLAN applied, I only got about 12'sih down and 1.1'ish up.  Am I overlooking something?

Can't replicate that here... what firmware version are youu on?

Are you using any user groups?

Gateway is 4.4.36.5146617

AP is 4.0.15.9872

 

No user groups configured

 

It's definitely odd, but recreateable behavior for me, tested on two Android devices using ookla app on both

Try different speedtest providers.

Have you tried a internal iPerf3 test?

I'll try the alt speed tests tonight, when I get home 

 

I've not even heard of an iperf3 test. I just Googled it ... Interesting. I'll give give that a run when I get home, as well. I'll have to dig my laptop out to run that on the different SSIDs.

The one thing I gather from this is that I have about 13 clients (6 of which are google home devices) on the primary SSID (first test results).  Would the lower bandwidth be caused by a metric ton of chatter on the network?
What I don't understand is why the 3rd test on a separate SSID, but same subnet as the primary would be faster... is segregation by SSID enough to isolate the traffic?

 

 

Strangely enough, I ran a few bandwidth tests on my Android with a few different testing apps and across all three SSIDs, and they were all pretty consistent, this evening... *shrug   Stranger anomalies have happened... but now I am curious about the different LAN speeds across the different SSIDs.

Wouldn't channel utilization be the same across all 3 SSIDs, since they're all hosted off the same AP?

I'm currently using a netgear 8 port gig switch.

 

I'll give that firmware a shot when I get home this evening. I had just seen the thread about that release and was reading up on it. I didn't see any fixes or patches regarding throughput or VLAN improvements (I may have overlooked it, if there was, of course), but I'll certainly give it a try.

Those numbers look better to begin with and the speed across the primary network seems to be greatly improved.

 

Was that an expected result of the new firmware?

Good to see the perfomance improved... I'm still unable to replicate the lower speed on SSIDs with vlans here in my lab.

For what it's worth, the WAN bandwidth seemed to have evened out, a bit.  The bigger concern was the discrepancy between the SSIDs when testing with iPerf, which seems to be greatly improved with the update.
