multiple WLAN schedule

[ Edited ]

Well ... UniFi APs are already capable of multiple WLAN schedules per day, however the changelog is clear to say controller support is still pending:

Firmware changes from 3.8.7:
[...]
[UAP] Add support for multiple WLAN schedule blocks per day.*
[...]
*controller support either varies or is pending.

Question: is it possible to use this feature by tweaking config.properties commands ? I'm really looking forward for this feature ...

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

OK, update. So the AP firmware and now ALSO the backend management is done here.

So the only remaining part is the UI. We are hoping to wrap this up soon.

Thanks,
Brandon

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

So the AP firmware supports it now. We just need to introduce it in the backend management and the UI. Let me check on status.

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

hi @UBNT-Brandon ... sorry for tagging you here, but i'm really hitting the wall on two projects/customers because the lack of this feature. Knowing it's only missing the Web UI part of it for some months now, is there any real estimate of when this will be made available ?

Thanks !

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

Wondering if there is any update?  I don't see it thus far in the 5.9.29 controller version just released, unless I am missing something?

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

getting things to work as expected/as promissed doesn't seem to be a priority for the Ubiquiti/UniFi team lately. Releasing new products seems to be their only priority for a long time now ...

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

Hi Brandon,

any update on this one? It's currently really not usable as you cannot have a "downtime" f.e. from 01:00 - 07:00.

Every major WIFI-Distributor has this one included since day 1.

Regards, Daniel

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

[ Edited ]

Guys ... i'll share my success config on Multiple WLAN schedule ... i got it successfully running on a 5.9.29 controller and v3.9.54 firmware, everything completly up-to-date (as on the day i'm writing this post).

The way i got it running was based on Ubnt-MikeD comments on this other thread:

https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/WLAN-Schedule/m-p/2202999#M272135

A little different from MikeD comments, on 5.9.x controller i had to configure, via Web UI, the first period, which will became the ".0" on the /tmp/system.cfg file on the AP. So, I got this: (close atention on Monday only, please)

Captura de Tela 2018-10-29 às 15.49.51.png

And then all the other schedules must be configured via config.properties. I had some on/off now, just to capture logs and post here. For example, i had on my config.properties:

config.system_cfg.1=wireless.2.schedule_mon.1=1520-1545
config.system_cfg.2=wireless.2.schedule_mon.2=1600-1620

These were the first 2 lines on the config.properties file, so "cfg.1" and "cfg.2". "wireless.2" was found analyzing /tmp/system.cfg and getting the correct number for the SSID i wanna this configs to be applied to. And, as mentioned, the period configured via Web UI will became the ".0", so "mon.1" and "mon.2".

The applied config, on the AP, so becames:

ap01-BZ.v3.9.54# grep sched system.cfg  | grep mon
wireless.2.schedule_mon.0=0000-0200
wireless.2.schedule_mon.1=1520-1545
wireless.2.schedule_mon.2=1600-1620
ap01-BZ.v3.9.54#

And from the AP /var/log/messages, i can see the SSID being enabled and disabled on the scheduled times. Actually, it's always +1 minute from scheduled, which i had already reported to be wrong but, as usual, no one from Ubiquiti/UniFi team seems to have care about it. Anyway, +1 minute will not hurt, it's actually working and i can live fine with that.

(my report on the +1 minute, on February/2018)

Oct 29 16:21:03 ap01 user.info kernel: [1127833.497000] br0.5: port 1(ath1) entering disabled state

Hope this helps anyone that needs this feature. Despite you'll need to configure a mix of Web UI + manual (config.properties) periods, i got it running successfully as reported.

EDIT: works on 5.10.x controllers with no changes at all

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

this is still pretty irritating that there isn't  a schedule option per device yet.  Why do I have to shut my whole ap off?  maybe I just want to block the kids devices when its bed time instead of having to log in to the controller to do it.

some devices are shared so seperating Wlans isn't really an option either.

Re: multiple WLAN schedule

It must be pretty hard to change the UI for this feature.....

I have been waiting for this feature and haven't felt like following the instructions to change config files, etc.  My daughter stays up later doing homework and my wife still wants the wifi off while we sleep.

When my daughter wants/needs to stay up past midnight, I've been either modifying the schedule before I go to bed or turning off the schedule.  Modifying the schedule so that the next day starts at midnight (instead of 6am) usually works fine, but not always.  Just this week, the WLAN was on, but no devices could connect because they reported that the password was incorrect.  I enabled the guest WLAN for her and it worked fine.  In the morning, it was working fine again...even though I hadn't changed anything.

PLEASE add the more flexible schedule to the UI!!!!!  It has been 18 months since the firmware and backend work was complete.

Thanks.
