Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

Just purchased an airCube AC, but cannot access it to configure it as an Access Point.

I downloaded the UNMS app from Google Play, connect the airCube wifi, but when I attempt to access the unit using the QR code, the relevant SSID, WPA keyUsername and Password are assigned correctly but I keep getting "Device Login Failed" error.

Connecting it to the LAN does not help either as it is not assigned an IP address by my DHCP server.

Is this an inherent fault or am I missing something?

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I have found you can connect if the cube has an IP given by a DHCP server....then use your phone to connect to it.

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it!

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I connected it to another LAN and it picked up the device in UNMS. However, it does not accept the username (ubnt) and password (as reflected on the device) and using the QR code yields the "Device Login Failed" error.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I am having the same issue. Installed the app on my Google phone and scanned the QR code. It spins for a little while and then I get the message "device login failed." Please help.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I've only had this when the cube was stand alone... Never when on a wire feeding it DHCP and Internet.... Weird

@RVFmaland @lydasaurus

I guess try a reset and restart the process

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I never found a method to resolve the connection to the device using the QR code. However I finally managed to get in to the device through toying with the case of the password. It finally logged in when what I was inserting as a lower case "L" was in actual fact an uppercase "i" (all the other letters were lower case so I assumed the same for that specific letter).

I do feel a bit of a plonker.

Still does not explain why the device refused to connect using the app and the QR code as the SSID, WLAN password, Username and device password were all inserted correctly upon scanning.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

[ Edited ]

I have the same issue here with a brand new ACB-AC. I also was going to make a reset but there is no reset button on the backside.... Just a enlighted hole. I can't reach any button with some tool.

The login failure on new devices seems to be an issue. Would like to see somebody of ubnt to step in here for troubleshooting (maybe @UBNT-SNK?). It is a mess if you buy new devices for a customer but can't start to configure the devices.

I could manage it now with getting an IP via my local DHCP and log in with the credentials provided. But there was now way to use the UNMS app on android and just scanning the QR code.

Regards

Dirk

Can you confirm there is no reset button in that hole? Should be able to get it with a paperclip?

Yes, I've tried resetting the device using the reset button and a paperclip twice now. Still cannot get it to work.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I used a piece of stable but thin copper wire. I couldn't feel any button.

That is odd. Let me check a current model here.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

I have just experienced this same problem.

I could not login via UNMS app on an iPhone. Always a login error.

Using ethernet the login also failed but after a LAN scan I ascertained that the broadcast MAC started FEECD  but the MAC on the device and on the box starts FCECD.

I suspect that the passwords generated during manufacture are linked to the MAC and therefore the ones on the labels have to be wrong.

Also, in the list of MACs that Ubiquiti use there are none starting FE. Some finger trouble perhaps programming the MAC in the chip.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

Thanks for the info. I haven't reproduced this yet with units I have here, but I will investigate.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

In attempting to recover from not being able to login due to passwords being wrong I tried this

From the "How To"

https://community.ubnt.com/t5/airCube/HOWTOs/m-p/2377389#M3

I tried to update the OS to the latest version and therefore gain access to the ability to change the password from the login page.

After putting the device into recovery tftp mode

Here's my copy from terminal

Cloudyjoes-Mac:tftpboot Steve$ tftp
tftp> binary
tftp> connect 192.168.1.20
tftp> put ACB.ar934x.v2.4.0.cb22320.180904.1044.bin
Sent 7106306 bytes in 2.9 seconds
tftp> quit
Cloudyjoes-Mac:tftpboot Steve$

which seems successful but this airCube will not boot up, nor will it reset.

Now I really do have a brick.

Re: Cannot Access to Configure airCube ACB-AC

@UBNT-SNK,

Just did some playing with this problem.  With an AirCube AC previously updated to v2.4.0 and reset to factory:

  1. Open Android UNMS App before you plug in the AirCube.
  2. Plug the AirCube in to power but nothing else.
  3. The moment you see the AirCube show up, try to connect.
  4. Scan the QR Code.
  5. Watch the login fail.
  6. Wait for the lighted ring to increase in brightness.
  7. hit Log In and receive the customer agreement.

So, it appears that the AirCube is being identified by the UNMS App long before the AirCube is ready for configuration.  Perhaps the cure is to delay bringing up the SSID until the AirCube is further along in the boot process?

Dreams never hurt. It's when they turn into expectations that you get problems.

Interesting find - that may be why I haven't reproduced this yet if I am waiting longer than you.
